The Neuroscience Research group within the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) in Basel, Switzerland, is looking for an experienced Research Associate with background and interest in the field of Neuroscience and Cell Biology. By joining our team you will actively contribute advancing cellular assay development and new target discovery programs in the field of neuroinflammation/neurodegeneration.
Your responsibilities:
You will play a critical role in establishing and implementing neuronal cellular assays and functional readouts both for assessing novel targets and characterizing low molecular weight compounds modulating neuroinflammatory/neurodegenerative pathways
You will perform in vitro experiments using primary cells, cell lines, as well as differentiated induced pluripotent stem cells to support multiple ongoing projects
You will plan, execute, and analyze experiments and present results in lab meetings and independently search for information in scientific and technical literature
You will engage in multiple collaborations with different units and show scientific curiosity, initiative, commitment, flexibility and excellent communication and organizational skills

Minimum Requirements
What you will bring to the role
▪ University degree (BSc, MSc) in Biology or a related scientific discipline (e.g. cell biology, biochemistry, or neuroscience) or completed apprenticeship as laboratory technician in Life Science discipline with relevant work experience in and industrial or academic setting
▪ Strong practical expertise in cell culture techniques such as isolating and handling primary rodent neuronal cells, maintaining and differentiating hiPSC cells into neuronal cells, or working with complex 2D or 3D co-culture cell models
▪ Experience in some of these standard laboratory techniques: molecular biology (RNA isolation, qPCR), biochemical/imaging methods (Western, ELISA, FACS analysis, ICC/IHC and microscopy), and cell-based assays (transfection/virus transduction, functional cellular assays (e.g. cell survival, proliferation, migration)
▪ Animal handling license (LTK1) would be of advantage
▪ Proficiency in MS Office software applications
▪ Fluency in English (oral/written)
