Research Scientist I or II – Cellular immunology lab, Novartis, Basel, Switzerland
6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. This position is for a temporary research associate within a cellular immunology lab in the Autoimmunity, Transplantation and Inflammation (ATI) group in Basel, Switzerland.
This role is limited for 6 – 12 months.
Your key responsibilities:
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plan, organize and perform experiments involving the isolation and culture of primary immune cells.
Characterize the features and functional properties of immune cells using various cell-based assays multicolor flow cytometry as well as analytical biochemical assays
Profile potential drug candidates to understand their mechanism of action
Work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary drug discovery environment

Minimum Requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
A Master’s degree in immunology, cell biology or related discipline with 5+ years of experience
Solid experience with isolation and culture of primary immune cells, multicolor flow cytometry, standard molecular and cell biology techniques, and analytical methods (e.g. ELISA, qPCR)
Advantageous extra skills include hands-on experience in Cytek/Aurora spectral flow cytometry and/or in vitro immune cell work using lentiviral/retroviral vectors or CRISPR technology
The ability to analyze and interpret results leading to new hypotheses
Scientific curiosity and a proactive mindset
Business-level/ fluent English and excellent communication skills to discuss and present your work in team meetings
