Background

The International Disability Alliance (IDA) is an alliance of eight global and six regional organizations of persons with disabilities. We advocate at the UN for a more inclusive global environment for persons with disabilities and their organizations. The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is our touchstone. We are invested in ensuring that the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals are inclusive and in line with CRPD.

IDA supports organizations of persons with disabilities worldwide to take part in UN and international human rights processes and use international accountability mechanisms. With member organizations globally, IDA represents the estimated one billion people worldwide with disabilities. This is the world’s largest and most frequently overlooked marginalized group. The Notetaker & Communications Assistant will help to publicly showcase the work of IDA and its members, often in creative ways and under deadline.

Mission

IDA is seeking a Notetaker & Communications Assistant and offers a highly challenging and intellectually engaging environment, an opportunity to meet and interact with thought leaders in multiple disciplines and the chance to help change the public narrative used around disability and the human rights of a billion people worldwide.

The Note-taker and Communications Assistant would report to the Executive Director and get a chance to work within a growing communications area.

The ideal candidate has experience in taking minutes of meetings and in creating and implementing communications products, with a basic understanding of websites, social media and design.

The Notetaker (40%) & Communications Assistant (60%) will be responsible for the following two sets of tasks:

As notetaker:

· Ensure the minutes of the meetings of the Board as well as other meetings, as directed by the Executive Director, are recorded in an accurate and timely manner.

As Communications Assistant:

· The Communications Assistant will take charge of publishing content

o on social media with the appropriate hashtags and tags,

o on the website ensuring that text and voice are clean, developing databases, monitor media coverage, events, communications, and marketing data along with other regular tasks.

Other responsibilities may include drafting / editing publication materials, communications copy and helping to execute communications projects and strategies.

Skills and requirements

a) Qualifications and Essential requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Communications, Political Sciences, Public Information, International Relations, English Language and Literature, Social Sciences or related,

  • Minimum of 2 years of similar professional experience including working in media, journalism, advocacy, communications and marketing, public relations and outreach or in related external relations contexts,

  • Excellent English writing and comprehension skills (accurate spelling and grammar), editing capacities, training in formal minute taking is highly desired

  • Strong communication skills

  • Strong team player with the capacity to work in a multicultural environment in decentralized locations

  • Ability and interest in design of basic visual communications assets

  • Excellent organizational, planning, and coordination skills, with great attention to detail

  • technical affinity for media contexts including substantive knowledge of social platforms, viral communities, web and digital tools, as well as in creating written content,

  • Knowledge of Gmail, Google Docs, Microsoft Office,

  • Understanding of accessible communications and information requirements,

b) Desirable requirements

  • Acquaintance with human rights and development fields

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Team, Adobe Suite, and other software relevant for the position,

  • Knowledge of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD),

  • Working experience with private sector or international organizations in similar field,

  • Working knowledge of other UN languages,

  • Command of Excel, Prezi and PowerPoint.

Other essential considerations:

  • Daily access to high-speed internet,

  • Full vaccination against Covid 19 and willingness to wear a mask indoors during the meetings, during the duration of the pandemic,

  • Dynamism, sense of innovation, and ability to take quick action,

  • Capacity to work under stressful situations, facing tight deadlines and high workloads,

  • Willingness and ability to work occasionally at non-standard hours,

  • Understanding and awareness of IDA safeguarding policies. IDA works in multi-cultural environments and with persons with disabilities who experience higher rates of discrimination, violence, and abuse.
