What We’re Looking For …
We’re looking for someone with an interest in a technical career within IT and who wants real world hands-on experience of cyber-security, domains, networks and general IT infrastructure. If you’re studying towards a degree or HND in IT, this could be the opportunity for you.
About Drax
We’re one of the largest energy generators in the UK, with our main site in North Yorkshire covering 13 square miles. That means there are a lot of complex and interesting structures to work on, not to mention some of the new ones in the pipeline.
We could easily tell you more about what a fantastic opportunity this is, but here is what Sam, our current placement student has to say
“The opportunity to gain a hands-on experience within a large-scale business has benefited me exponentially. It has helped me to not only improve my technical knowledge gained from university but also how to maintain the continuity of a business and remain compliant with legislations such as NIS. I have also been able to focus on areas of IT that I did not fully understand prior to Drax such as DMZ’s and firewalls. This has allowed me to feel confident heading into my final year of university and future career endeavours.
While at Drax, I have simultaneously developed an understanding of how the power plant works by working with a variety of industrial software and tending to technical issues in areas such as the turbine hall. The engineering aspect and being able to work on a power station’s OT infrastructure every day helps to keep job life exciting and adds an element of surprise as every day is different and offers an opportunity to learn something new. Staff at Drax are another great factor about working here, as they are more than happy to help and are constantly encouraging you to achieve the best of your ability. I couldn’t recommend it enough!”
What happens next?
Once you hit “apply,” you’ll be taken through our application questions and adding your CV is optional.
Remember, we want to get to know you as an individual, so don’t forget to let us know your motivations and aspirations as well as why Drax sparked your interest.
The placement will start mid to late June and finish August 2024.
One thing we would ask is that you take some time to consider our location, which is a bit out of the way and normally requires your own transport to get here.
