POSITION SUMMARY:

Summary of project: Project HOPE’s Neonatal Nursing Education Initiative supported the establishment and current implementation of bachelor’s degree programs in advanced neonatal education in Sierra Leone and Malawi. In addition, Project HOPE is assisting with Sierra Leone College of Medicine and Health Sciences’ preparation of a Masters degree in neonatal nursing that is to begin in Fall, 2022. These include faculty preparation and curriculum development components that need intense coordination. The Faculty Development Program includes individual theoretical and clinical mentorship as well as general seminar topics on neonatal nursing. Project HOPE partners with the Jefferson University School of Nursing, the Council of International Neonatal Nurses (COINN Inc.) and various mentor Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Educators on this program. The Sierra Leone University planning for a curriculum development program for a Masters in Neonatal Nursing is anticipated to be ongoing over the next six months. Evaluation of the overall NNE Initiative is ongoing with need for data progress and lessons tracking and learning.

Coordinator’s role in the project:

The NNE Coordinator will work closely with the Project HOPE Sr. Consultant for Nursing Education to manage and coordinate the NNE ​faculty preparation and curriculum development activities to:

· Assist in coordination of Neonatal Faculty and Mentor meetings and support the Mentor-faculty objectives

· Assist Mentors to prepare neonatal seminars for faculty dedicated to teaching neonatal advanced nursing topics (PowerPoint presentations etc)

· Support and track the activities under the Jefferson University School of Nursing partnership

· Support the Mentors working with the Sierra Leone’s MSc. Technical Curriculum Development Committee track progress and challenges

· Track the Professional Association membership requests and fulfillment, professional activities, reporting under Jefferson College of Nursing collaboration ​

· Collect overall monitoring and evaluation data on all NNE programs to date in preparation for reporting

· Provide assistance with technical support to NNE Forums

· Attend individual Mentorship ​and Jefferson Fellowship team meetings and keep note of activities

· Assist with broader Project HOPE Workforce activities, as feasible

· Other activities as assigned including helping to synthesis lessons learnt.

Deliverables for the NN Coordinator to complete will include:

· Weekly meetings with NNE Sr. Consultant to share progress on meeting the above roles

· Monthly activity reports for review with the Sr. Consultant for NNE

· Other writing TBD

Start & end date: Anticipated June- September 2022

Exact start and end summer dates will be set in coordination with the program and intern and will fall between an 12-16 week commitment at 30-35 hours per week.

Location: Remote or Washington DC office

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Masters in Neonatal Nursing attained or currently in the final stages of the degree program

  • Experience in working in a NICU- at least one year recent experience
  • Experience teaching neonatal nursing a plus
  • Interest in international RMNCH and nursing programs

  • Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”
