Purpose of role as NTD Intern

The NTD team in Mali are excited to have an internship opportunity to offer a recent graduate. The role will support the Country NTD Manager in multiple ways to enhance the program work.

Mali implemented the WHO guidelines for the elimination and control of NTDs and due to the implementation of the 2007-2011, 2012-2016, 2017-2021 strategic plans positive results have been achieved including:

Stopping of mass drug administration for trachoma, Lymphatic Filariasis, and Soil transmitted helminths.

Stop MDA surveys (entomological and serological) are being implemented and we hope the last round of MDA in some districts could be in 2023.

Despite the good results obtained to date, challenges remain in the fight against schistosomiasis.

About the role of NTD Intern

Responsibilities will include but not limited to

  • Ensure ongoing collaboration with partners (INGOs, MoH and Regional Health Directorates).
  • Support the national programs in the finalization of the various reports as well as their archiving.
  • Support national programs of NTDs to implement activities according to required standards.
  • Plan and play an active role in supervision and monitoring of project activities.
  • Submit a report of field activities as well as success stories.
  • Follow up Due Diligence process by ensuring all required documents are in place.
  • Work with the Program Manager to ensure requested information and documents are uploaded into the Program Portal.

Planning, Monitoring and Organising

  • Support the country NTD Manager to prepare and review the workplan and budget submitted by national programs.
  • Ensure and set up a system for regularly monitoring the progress of activities in the field and inform the Country NTD manager of any difficulties.
  • Work with all NTD partners at country level to ensure better coordination of activities implementation.

Problem Solving

  • Maintain regular work relationship with national programs of NTD to provide accurate data.
  • Contribute to the periodic update of the landscape of NTD stakeholders and donors in Mali.
  • Keep the country office informed via the country NTD Manager regarding any gap related to NTD funding.
  • Explore supportable action from cross sectoral coordination e.g. education, health and WASH sectors.

The main responsibilities are not meant to be an exhaustive list of tasks, the post-holder may be required to perform any other tasks to achieve the objectives.

Knowledge, skills and experience for NTD Intern

Essential:

  • Educated a least to graduate degree level in Medicine, public health or similar
  • Great competence in using Microsoft office package (Excel, PPT, Word)
  • Ability to build relationship with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate at least one year experience and competence in NTD or public health sector.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equity, gender, and social inclusion.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Available and able to travel up to 10 weeks across Mali during the tenure
  • Fluent French
  • Good English
  • Current and ongoing right to work in Mali
