Natural Resources Management (NRM) Specialist, Eastern and Southern Caribbean

ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Natural Resources Management (NRM) Specialist for an anticipated economic development program in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean funded by USAID.

The NRM Specialist will provide strategic support work in the development, analysis and implementation of program-related activities to manage natural resources, land, water, mineral, forest and energy resources, and agricultural systems. The program is anticipated to start in 2022. This position could be based in Barbados or other countries within the geographic focus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and input into the Environmental Mitigation Plans and Reports (EMPR) and/or Environmental Assessments (EAs) before program implementation as required by the Environmental Threshold Decision/Initial Environmental Examination (ETD/IEE) and continued monitoring of related activities
  • Outline a programmatic environmental impact assessment of USAID recovery plans
  • Design and implement environmentally sound and sustainable production actions
  • Analyze livelihood zone profiles for targeted regions to understand the distinct challenges and opportunities related to agro-ecological zones, agriculture, and markets
  • Supervise regional and field-based technical staff in agronomy and natural resource management
  • Design trainings to build capacity of government development agents, regional and local government officials, and ACDI/VOCA in-country staff
  • Collaborate on multiple program areas simultaneously
  • Recommend steps to address immediate environmental issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, NRM, or relevant field is required; master’s degree is desired.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant, progressively responsible management experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with USAID and/or other international Donor programs’ rules and regulations.
  • Experience working in Eastern and Southern Caribbean preferred.
  • Fluency in English required.
