Position Title: National Project Officer (Migration Health)

Type of Appointment: Special short-term graded, six months with possibility of extension

Context:

Under the overall guidance of the Head of Sub-Office in Cotabato City and direct supervision from Head of Programmes, with technical guidance from the Chief Migration Health Officer in Manila, the successful candidate will implement Migration Health-related activities, including activities under IOM’s preparedness, response, peacebuilding, and development programming.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Implement Migration Health activities in Mindanao based on guidance provided by both supervisors.
  • Monitor the progress of IOM’s Migration Health activities across Mindanao, including compilation of periodic updates and workplans.
  • Support other programming teams on Migration Health, as needed.
  • Work on management of various relevant MH data, gathering, recording, analyzing and reporting, including MH profiling and relevant surveys;
  • Ensure understanding of IOM Migration Health Department’s (MHD) technical guidance across IOM Mindanao’s project teams
  • Provide technical guidance on Migration Health for government partners, stakeholders, and donors in support of IOM’s programming.
  • Liaise with government ministries, departments, and other relevant stakeholders in relation to Migration Health activities in Mindanao.
  • Liaise and coordinate with relevant stakeholders, such as national and local government counterparts, civil society groups, national and international organizations and existing private sector networks.
  • Participate in stakeholders’ meetings/platforms and provide briefings and information updates on IOM’s Migration Health activities in Mindanao.
  • Provide timely and quality submission of project reports related to Migration Health in accordance with IOM and donor formats.
  • Deliver regular updates, project summaries, and other relevant info materials and statistics including requests from MHD.
  • Coordinate with IOM’s Country Office, Satellite Offices and field colleagues that are implementing projects related to Migration Health in Mindanao to ensure integration of Migration Health considerations.
  • Support the Senior Management Team on project visibility and stakeholder engagements in regard to health considerations, MHD specifications and donor requirements.
  • Undertake duty travel to support the team and other colleagues, as required.
  • Perform such duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in implementation of health projects in humanitarian and/or development context.
  • Work experience in Mindanao and specifically the BARMM is preferred.
  • Field work with counterparts from the government, non-government and/or international organizations involved in humanitarian and/or development context is considered desirable.

Skills

  • Drafting, communication and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge on Mindanao context, especially the various conflict contexts in the BARMM, an asset
  • Knowledge in the BARMM Provinces cultural practices and context setting
  • Good level of computer literacy, including office software such as MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of any local language is desirable.
