Context/Reporting line:
IOM Iraq was established in 2003, and has built a strong network of staff, offices, and logistics capacity. With
more than 1,500 staff and main offices in Baghdad, Erbil, and Basra and 16 sub-offices in key locations, IOM
works in cooperation with the Government of Iraq to provide support across all of Iraq’s 18 governorates. IOM
works in partnership with UN agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Community Service
Organizations (CSOs) as a member of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) for Iraq.
Under the overall supervision of the Head, Migration Health Unit, the administrative supervision of the Head of
Sub Office (HoSO) and the direct supervision of the Migration Health Officer, the incumbent will be responsible
for the following:
Core Functions / Responsibilities
1. Conduct the MHAC’s migration health assessment process to fulfil the technical requirements of
the resettlement countries in the areas of:
 Medical examinations.
 Imaging.
 Laboratory testing.
 Vaccinations.
 TB management.
 Treatment and referrals.
 Pre-departure procedures and medical movements.
 Documentation, certification and information transmission, and other technical areas as
may be required.
2. Ensure proper identification of refugees and migrants during the health assessment and record all
relevant health information in standard forms, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the recorded
information.
3. Coordinate with IOM Movement and Operations teams to ensure provision of adequate medical travel
requirements for all migrants and refugees travelling under the IOM auspice.
4. Oversee and coordinate the management of TB and sexually transmitted infections and provide
support to the HIV and counselling activities to ensure effective treatment.

5. Oversee and coordinate accurate and effective provision of immunization and presumptive
treatment programmes in full compliance with the technical guidelines and protocols of the
resettlement countries. Assist MHO in monitoring, supervising, and educating all staff in the
delivery of these programmes.
6. Contribute to and maintain a system of quality improvement for each service area within the MHAC
through compliance with the global IOM Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and MHAC
specific SOPs for each service area.
7. Ensure proper reporting and management of incidents according to the Guidance Note for Incident
Management.
8. Ensure that all data related to heath assessment programmes is appropriately entered to Migrant
Management Operational System Application (MiMOSA), Emedical and other related databases.
9. Perform medical escort duties within/outside the country when required.
10. Perform other duties as required for a successful implementation of the program.


 

Education:
 Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Surgery or any other related field from an accredited academic
university or institute.
Experience and Skills:
 Minimum 2 years of working experience.
 Relevant experience in migration health, migration medical assessments, epidemiology and/or
international public health.
 Experience of working with international humanitarian organizations, in a multi-cultural setting is an
advantage.
 Good interpersonal and communication skills, awareness of gender issues, flexibility, tolerance, and
capacity to work in team, and capacity to work in hard and challenging conditions.
Languages:
 Fluent in English and Arabic is required.
 Kurdish language is an advantage.
