Here’s where you come in:

As the National Director of World Vision Afghanistan, you will lead World Vision’s country humanitarian response in terms of:

  • Providing strategic leadership and Senior Management oversight of the design, implementation, and funding of World Vision Afghanistan
  • Leading the Senior Leadership Team, ensuring that the strategy is meeting desired goals and objectives and that the Afghanistan office is appropriately structured, financially viable & appropriately resourced, and compliant with World Vision policies.
  • Representing World Vision and the National Office externally as deemed appropriate including with defacto government representatives, donors, funding offices, partners and other World Vision Partnership offices

Given the current context, the National Director needs to constantly balance Humanitarian Principles with the Humanitarian Imperative.

We are looking for a senior, experienced humanitarian leader with a strong track record in complex crises and fragile contexts, and excellent team leadership, communications, risk and relationship management skills.

Requirements include:

  • University degree in humanitarian, development, international relations or relevant field. Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of 5+ years in leadership roles in the humanitarian and development sector, in major INGOs
  • At least 3 years’ senior management experience in humanitarian responses within complex, fragile and conflict related contexts
  • Extensive experience in program management and implementation of multi-sectoral emergency response projects
  • Experience working in high pressure, rapid response environments with multiple risks
  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English
  • The position is based in Herat, Afghanistan with 30% travel to the field.

Note: The National Director role in Afghanistan requires a highly responsible leader who prioritizes safety and security principles, can swiftly analyze complex emergencies, and manage a multinational/multicultural team in a restrictive Muslim context. The position demands leadership in high-pressure situations and Hostile Environment Awareness Training is mandatory.
