TITLE: Multimedia Design and Communications Officer

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
ROLE PURPOSE: We are looking for an enthusiastic and Communication, Multimedia & Design Officer to join our Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications, and Media (ACCM) Unit at Save the Children Afghanistan – Kabul. As our in-house Communication, Multimedia & Design Officer you will be responsible for developing and overseeing the look and feel of communications products related to Save the Children’s programmatic and campaign activities. Your role will include researching, problem solving, conceptualizing and designing with impact to a broad range of audiences, including the general public, donors, governments, and other Save the Children offices. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
As a Communication, Multimedia & Design Officer you will sit on the core media team that is part of the Afghanistan country office wider ACCM team.
– Leading on design and brand visibility for Save the Children Afghanistan – designing donor visibility materials, developing infographics, animations and designing research reports.
– You will generate inspiring and appropriate design solutions for print and online audiences within agreed budgets and deadlines agreed with ACCM colleagues and project staff. You will support the overall coherence and effectiveness of visual design and content messaging for Save the Children’s national and international channels. In addition, you will:
– Act as a brand supervisor always ensuring the correct and appropriate use of our brand identity.
– Be a multimedia and design champion and consultant for both internal colleagues and external agencies, including partners, to support teams in developing communications products and adopting best practices, including child safeguarding.
– Build and maintain healthy relationships with Save the Children teams at all levels, including sub-national, national and international, through a positive and proactive approach
– Have an active interest in innovative approaches to humanitarian communications.

QUALIFICATIONS
– To be successful you will have a degree or equivalent experience in visual communication with significant experience of working professionally producing visual design for integrated projects across both print and digital platforms.
– Fluent proficiency in Adobe CC including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is essential.
– Experience in developing child focused materials, in particular animations.
– Relevant knowledge, interest and enthusiasm in integrated communications campaigns;
– Possess a varied, high-quality portfolio of work; and,
– Flexibility and a willingness to embrace new and innovative methods of working.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
* Bachelor’s degree in communications, design or other related field;
* Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a multimedia and design capacity, preferably with an NGO
* Excellent design skills
* Strong proficiency in Adobe CC, including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
* Excellent communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English and one of Afghan languages (Pashtu / Dari);
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office package;
* Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy;
* Proven skills as a trainer/facilitator and mentor;
* Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles;
* Good conceptual and analytical thinking, and good attention to detail.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE
– Experience in photography and videography
