The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a non-aligned, non-political, not-for-profit pan African organisation headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, whose vision is to see transformed lives on the African continent through science. Our tripartite mandate is recognising excellence through the AAS’ highly prestigious fellowship and award schemes, providing advisory and think tank functions for shaping Africa’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) strategies and policies and implementing key STI programmes addressing Africa’s developmental challenges.

Role overview

AAS seeks a Multimedia and Communications Intern to join the Communications and PR department, the team responsible for corporate communications at the AAS.

The successful candidate will support the enhancement of the organisation’s visual identity through the development of innovative multimedia assets for our website, social media platforms and print products.

Duties and responsibilities

· Support production of video content for the AAS website and social media platforms (pre-production, recording, and editing).

· Capture and edit visual content: produce high-quality photographic images.

· Design posters, flyers, social media graphics and infographics.

· Develop social media content and update social media channels.

· Updating content on AAS’s website.

· Manage digital archive and maintain an organized file-management system of images and video clips.

· Assist with the production of the annual report.

· Research and analyse information for various communication collateral.

· Assist in coordinating events: for both physical and online events.

· Assist in content development for multiple digital platforms. This includes, but is not limited to blogs, case studies, success/impact stories etc.

· Any other assigned duties.

Qualifications and competencies

· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Film Production, Public Relations or any other related field. Must have recently graduated within the last two years.

· Strong proficiency in the Adobe Suite (particularly Premiere Pro, InDesign and illustrator) or an equivalent.

· Demonstrated experience in graphic design, video production and photography. Applicants should share samples of their work.

· Demonstrated writing experience.

· Ability to work on and prioritise multiple ongoing projects, as well as adhere to tight deadlines while maintaining strict quality standards.

· Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and collaboration skills.

· Creative, resourceful, and eager to learn.

Additional information

The successful candidate will be engaged full time (40 hours/ week) for a period of 3 months working at the AAS offices in Nairobi, Kenya.
