About the Position

I4DI seeks a MERL Specialist to cultivate, maintain, and strengthen client and partner relationships and provide MERL support to its growing global portfolio. The MERL Specialist will provide day-to-day technical leadership across the full life cycle of I4DI’s private sector engagements and MERL technical programming. This individual will also contribute to business development through opportunity identification, leading proposals, and writing technical content including thought leadership pieces. As needed, the position will liaise with other I4DI operational and technical teams to ensure the strong execution of MERL best practices across the organization, both in the I4DI home office and in field projects.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the growth, and management of I4DI’s global MERL portfolio with the private sector, bilateral donors, and other I4DI clients.
  • Lead the design and execution of MEL-related activities such as evaluations, surveys, DQAs, MEL plan review and development, assessments, learning activities, etc.
  • Design, write and edit a variety of MEL communication products (e.g. activity summaries and outreach materials including fact sheets, infographics, newsletters, etc.)
  • Design and facilitate learning activities and solutions sessions, both internally and with partners and clients to identify the best opportunities and paths to success.
  • Help expand and maintain a strong roster of consultants and partner organizations with a focus on locally-led MERL in the countries where we operate.
  • Build the capacity of I4DI staff, partners, and consultants to meet and exceed client expectations for MERL assignments. Identify and pursue business development opportunities in the public and private sector, including through managing and/or writing business development proposals.
  • Engage in continuous learning and thought leadership on behalf of I4DI to support MEL innovation, knowledge generation, and institutional technical reputation.
  • Provide technical input and thought leadership into I4DI’s generation of best practices and standardization of MERL approaches. Conduct critical analyses and reflections of internal and industry practices to produce technical publications such as knowledge notes, case studies, or other learning products.
  • Represent the company’s expertise through various mechanisms that reach beyond clients, such as publications, conferences, and technical communications.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in international development or a closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in international development programming, USAID/State Department preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience designing and implementing MEL for international development programs, preferably including USAID funded programs
  • Demonstrated experience designing and writing winning MERL strategies for international development programs, including technical proposals and MEL plans
  • Experience with efficient and effective use of technical and financial resources by leveraging existing MERL best practices; Knowledge of and expertise in applying traditional and innovative MERL approaches (e.g. complexity aware monitoring, developmental evaluation, outcome harvesting, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to implement complex programs across the globe through the coordination of field staff, clients, and partner institutions
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, writing, and editing skills, including the ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise narratives
  • Familiarity with the private sector engagement in development, supply chain sustainability initiatives, impact investing at large, and corresponding results measurement systems
  • Prior experience in marketing, capture management, and proposal development
  • Knowledge of applicable data visualization and data analysis software
  • Demonstrated ability to engage cross-culturally and with senior-level clients
  • Experience facilitating virtual and in-person learning events
