Overview of position:

  • The incumbent will be responsible for driving IOM owned Toyota Hilux pick up carrying a trailer designed ad hoc to be used as a mobile clinic (with refrigerators for medicines, AC unit, bed for patients & so on).
  • Every day the trailer will be moved by the incumbent to the designated location & operate there until it is time to go back.
  • No person will be inside the trailer while on movement.
  • During the day the car can be used for referral of patients to hospital & other clinics while the clinic continue the operation on ground.

Role objectives:

  • Timely & safely moving the mobile clinic to the operation sites & support the health technical team in day to day operation.

Expected output:

  • Drive the IOM vehicle carrying the IOM mobile clinic & transport authorized personnel.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is used exclusively for official / authorized business, as advised by the supervisor.
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the assigned vehicle & ensure its roadworthiness.
  • This includes daily check of tires, brakes, engine oil, fan belt, etc.
  • Keep records of spare parts for the vehicle & conduct monthly spare part inventory.
  • Ensure that the vehicle undertakes regular service intervals & maintains cleanliness of the in & outside part of the vehicle.
  • Arrange for minor repairs & ensure that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.
  • Ensure that the vehicle has full tank & is technically ready prior departure for field trips.
  • Identify the most effective & efficient route to reach the requested destination.
  • Implement measures to reduce potential security threats to IOM officials or property within the immediate vicinity of the vehicle & along transport routes.
  • Ensure that appropriate actions in line with local rules & regulations pertaining to driving are taken in case an accident occurs.
  • Maintain a vehicle logbook & verified by staff using the vehicle.
  • Ensure that the daily log sheet & monthly report is prepared summarizing statistics on mileage, fuel consumption, etc.
  • Undertake other office assignments & small errands when instructed.
  • Adhere to IOM code of conduct as well as the local code of transit rules & regulations for road travel.
  • Maintain a high degree of confidentially & discreteness in discussions & travels, which involves IOM & its officials.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Project reporting:

  • This role works under supervision of the Health Program Manager & is expected to:
  • Complete the car logbook indicating all movements done, all refuelling & all maintenance & repairs.

Key competencies:

  • Holding a valid & official Mozambican truck driving license.
  • Good communication, interpersonal & organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated gender awareness & gender sensitivity.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures & professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility & drive for results.
  • At least 3 years of experience in driving light vehicles.
  • Experience in driving light vehicles on dirty roads.
  • Must have prior driving experience in Cabo Delgado province.
  • Must be fluent in Portuguese & knowledge of English & / or any local language (working).
