CONTEXT

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to provide medical care to victims of conflict and violence, displaced persons, and those suffering from epidemics or pandemics such as HIV/AIDS. This is done through its regular projects and emergency response teams. These teams are ready to respond nationwide in the event of an outbreak, natural disaster or conflict.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

The Mission Advocacy Manager is responsible for all analysis and advocacy activities of MSF Belgium’s mission in DRC, adhering to MSF policies and values, following the operational line and reporting to the Analysis Unit at MSF Belgium headquarters. He/she is part of the mission coordination team and acts as a point of contact for all operational and medical teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Define, implement and coordinate all MSF-Belgium analysis and advocacy activities, with the task of developing advocacy strategies that address the medical-humanitarian priorities associated with the mission’s needs. As a member of the country coordination team, advises the Head of Mission and coordinators, and ensures that advocacy elements are included in project and mission operational strategies.

PREREQUISITES

Education:

  • Master’s level academic background (anthropology/social science/political science, law, public health, gender studies, protection) with first-rate writing skills and excellent research and analytical skills.

Experience:

  • 3 years of proven experience in analysis and advocacy.
  • 2 years of experience working in humanitarian advocacy
  • Working experience and knowledge of global health issues is an asset
  • Experience with MSF is an asset

  • Strong analytical skills, and ability to summarize complex topics to identify key issues
  • Ability to develop and implement an advocacy strategy

Languages:

French and English (written and spoken) essential

CONDITIONS

  • Expected starting date: 1/09/2022
  • Location: Kinshasa (DRC)
  • Frequent field vsits
  • Contract type: one year renewable field contract
  • Salary & benefits according to MSF-OCB Field salary scale
  • The contractual terms will be established according to the residency and the administrative constraints (work permit, etc) of the candidate in respect of MSF standard function and salary grids.
  • Transportation, accommodation, vaccinations, per diem and medical insurance are covered by MSF
