Mine Electrician

Responsibilities:

Has a sound knowledge of electrical work and has a working knowledge of most of the shop skills, i.e., electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, pipe fitting, machine tool setup and operation, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repairs, construction, maintenance and installation, etc. May do painting and carpentry work and occasionally will assist in training those with lesser skills.

Assists others of higher classification and works with and directs the work of others in making repairs to mine machinery, operates any and all plant tools necessary in his electrical work, is able to read most blueprints and has a working knowledge of shop mathematics, may do routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning and inspection of equipment and attachments. Is able to locate and remedy electrical trouble in most all of the mine machines, equipment and installations. May change and service batteries. May work with and assist Electrician Leadman or Mechanic on all types of work.

Keeps working area neat and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair. Does other work of a related nature as directed. On occasion as a matter of training may be given tasks of a skill normally required of a higher classification.

Successful bidder must be a qualified Journeyman Electrician.

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Mine Maintenance Manager and the direct supervision of the Mine Maintenance Foreman, does installation, maintenance, repairs and construction work in the mine.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

High School or equivalent education required.

Normally requires over two years of shop and electrical experience to quality or through the training program.

Essential Job Functions

Cleans shop and work areas. Lifting would be limited to a maximum of 65 lbs. Cleaning requires employee to bend, stoop and lift items from the floor, tables and benches.

Required to work on ground level, platforms, ladders, scaffolding, hi lifts, etc. Requires employee to climb ladders, climb scaffolding, bend, stoop, twist and lift. Lifting would be limited to a maximum of 65 pounds. Assists in erecting ladders, scaffolding, etc.

Operates mobile equipment such as golf carts and tractors. Must have good eye, hand and foot coordination to manipulate the respective controls.

Use hand tools and electrical testing equipment. Must read and interpret various types of troubleshooting equipment. Must read and understand electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.

Must understand and follow verbal instructions and also give verbal instructions.

Must exercise independent judgement on technical matters and safety procedures.

Will work in mine shaft from elevated platforms.

May be required to come in early to perform work before the regular shift starts.

Essential job functions are performed in all types of weather conditions. Some work may be performed inside plant buildings but many are performed outside. Requires employee to work in hot, humid, wet, dusty, cool and cold environments. Most work is performed underground.
