Duty Station : Mae Sot, Thailand

Classification : General Service (G5, THB 74,905.75 / month)

Type of Appointment : One Year Fixed-Term,

Initial 12 months with possibility of extension

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Migration Health Officer (CMHO) and the direct supervision of the Migration Health Officer (MHO), with close coordination with the IOM Head of Office in Mae Sot, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the Migration Health Division (MHD) in Mae Sot, Thailand.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Perform daily nursing activities to implement the Global Fund (GF) for Tuberculosis (TB)

project activities in Mae La refugees camp including but not limited to:

a. Medical examinations,

i Such as checking vital signs, weight, height, visual acuity;

ii Blood, urine or sputum collection as required;

b. Imaging;

c. Laboratory testing;

d. TB management;

e. Treatment and referrals;

f. Documentation, certification and information transmission; and,

g. Other technical areas as may be required.

  1. Provide information and detailed explanations to the migrants and/or refugees in relation to:

• Active TB case finding and,

• Treatments and referrals.

  1. Ensure proper identification and follow-up by:

• Comprehensive history taking;

• Accurate and thorough Biodata collection;

• Ensuring ID verification for each step of active TB case finding process; and,

• Keeping a register of applicants who undergo health investigations and testing.

  1. Follow and implement the TB screening and management check list and SOP’s and maintain

standard universal precautions within MHD.

  1. Verify samples of sputum, blood or others are properly transported to the laboratory or

previously designated location.

  1. Maintain and monitor the MHD equipment and supplies stock for GF TB project.

  2. Provide pre and/or post counselling to migrants or refugees on TB or relevant health

education, prevention and management as appropriate.

  1. Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary.

  2. Support the planning and execution of mobile mission in Mae La camp.

  3. Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate the follow up and

relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians, embassies other UN agencies or NGO’s and others as applicable.

  1. Collect statistical information and share with the MHO or CMHO as per preset and agreed

upon format.

  1. Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education:

Nursing Degree with a minimum of five years relevant clinical experience and a valid license to practice nursing in Thailand

Experience:

  • Excellent technical skills in TB screening and management.
  • Training or working experience in the areas of Tuberculosis management, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access)

Skills:

  • Knowledge of inventory and stock management.

  • Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.

Languages:

  • Required: Fluency in English and Thai

  • Desirable: Working Knowledge of Burmese
