Job Summary:

As the Director of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), you will be leading a multidisciplinary team dedicated to integrating and delivering high-quality MHPSS programs within Humanity Crew’s global emergency responses. You will be instrumental in shaping strategy, guiding program implementation, and fostering partnerships to ensure that mental health and psychosocial support remain at the forefront of humanitarian interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the innovation of MHPSS programs, ensuring they are contextually appropriate, evidence-based, and leverage best practices and emerging research.

2. Program Development and Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of MHPSS programs across various field locations.
  • Ensure program quality through the development of guidelines, standards, resources, and capacity-building initiatives for MHPSS staff and volunteers.

3. MHPSS Content Development:

  • Spearhead the creation and continuous improvement of MHPSS content and methodologies, ensuring alignment with global standards and cultural relevance for beneficiaries.
  • Design comprehensive training materials and programs to build the capacity of staff and volunteers, enhancing their skills and competencies in delivering high-quality MHPSS services.

3. Coordination and Representation:

  • Represent Humanity Crew in global, regional, and national forums, working groups, and strategic partnerships related to MHPSS.
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders, including local communities, NGOs, governmental bodies, and academic institutions.

4. Team Management and Development:

  • Lead a diverse team of MHPSS professionals, promoting a culture of continuous learning, ethical practice, and compassionate care.
  • Ensure the well-being of MHPSS staff and volunteers, including mechanisms for stress management and psychological support.

5. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Research:

  • Promote a culture of learning and adaptation by incorporating monitoring and evaluation feedback into program and strategy development.
  • Collaborate with research institutions to contribute to evidence-based practices in the field of humanitarian MHPSS interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Work, Art Therapy or related field with a focus on mental health and psychosocial support services a must.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time professional experience in MHPSS, with at least 5 years in humanitarian contexts, including crisis and conflict settings – a must.
  • Significant program management skills, evidenced by previous work in large-scale organizations or global companies; candidates with diverse experiences in managing expansive, multifaceted projects or programs outside the traditional humanitarian sector are encouraged to apply. This experience should showcase competencies in strategic planning, resource management, and the successful implementation of complex initiatives a must.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience, including working with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams – a must.
  • Strong understanding of IASC Guidelines on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings – a strong advantage.
  • Excellent advocacy, communication, and negotiation skills, with the capability of high-level representation for the organization in both formal and informal contexts.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to field locations, including those that may be challenging or insecure.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages relevant to Humanity Crew’s work (e.g., Arabic, Turkish, French, Spanish) highly advantageous.
