*As coordinator of our Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) mission, will you help us build the foundation of our new mission in Athens? Do you have experience in setting up MHPSS programs in an urban context? Are you a Greek speaking and Greek certified clinical psychologist, are you a real pioneer and are you not easily put off? Then you are the one we are looking for!*

The MHPSS Coordinator is part of our new team in Athens. You will form a team together with our Area Manager. The Area Manager will be your line manager and you will manage the MHPSS team, consisting of a Greek psychologist, Greek social workers and several MHPSS volunteers. The program will use a holistic, comprehensive approach. It will provide psychological counseling with a strengths-based recovery orientation, while social workers will bridge to social security, connectedness, and meaningful activities. As MHPSS Coordinator, you are the face of Boat Refugee Foundation in the field of mental health and psychosocial support in Athens.

WHERE WILL YOU WORK?

Boat Refugee Foundation provides medical and psychological (emergency) assistance and stands up for the rights of people on the run. Where systems become inhumane and compassion is lost, we take action. Since 2015, we have been committed to various locations at the borders of Europe. Currently, we are active in the Mavrovouni camp on Lesvos where our teams provide emergency assistance seven days a week. We are now expanding our MHPSS mission to Athens.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As MHPSS Coordinator, you will ensure a high quality MHPSS program that responds to the psychosocial care demand in Athens. You will be responsible for a well-trained and professional team in the field and ensure good collaboration with other (MHPSS) actors.

Your work focuses on the following points:

  • You coordinate all aspects of the MHPSS team and activities to ensure high quality psychological care that meets Greek standards.

  • You provide leadership to the MHPSS team and support them in the implementation of activities.

  • You develop and organize training for the MHPSS team and ensure, among other things, sufficient intervision moments.

  • You are the point of contact for MHPSS-related questions.

  • You develop protocols and manuals for the MHPSS mission and activities and/or update already existing protocols and procedures in this area so that they fit into the Athens setting and comply with Greek standards.

  • You write project proposals for the MHPSS mission in Athens.

  • You represent Boat Refugee Foundation and build a network with other organizations and authorities. You maintain warm ties with organizations we work with.

  • You map out the different organizations in the field of MHPSS and make it clear how we can refer people to other activities; in particular Greek services.

  • You ensure the quality of the MHPSS mission by collecting, monitoring, analyzing and evaluating data and observations of the MHPSS activities, which are also used to improve the MHPSS activities.

  • You will also report monthly to the head office on key points of the MHPSS program.

WHO ARE YOU?

Our ideal candidate meets the following profile:

  • You have a graduate degree in clinical psychology and are certified to practice in Greece.

  • You are fluent in Greek and English, both verbally and in writing. Speaking Farsi, Arabic, French and/or Dutch is an advantage.

  • You have a minimum of 3 years of clinical work experience in mental health care focused on trauma-related complaints.

  • You have experience with a holistic, comprehensive MHPSS approach.

  • You are familiar with a strengths-based recovery orientation in psychosocial care.

  • You have experience working with an MHPSS program in an urban setting, preferably in an international context.

  • You have significant leadership experience in international contexts managing multicultural teams.

  • You have experience setting up new programs.

  • You have worked with people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

Further:

  • You have people skills. You have a good view on qualities and pitfalls and you like to start a conversation to get to know people better. This makes you capable of empowering the team.

  • You have good social and communicative skills.

  • You have international work experience.

  • You work independently and are proactive and always seek opportunities and act in a solution-oriented manner.

  • You do not shy away from f (self) reflection and feedback discussions.

  • You have experience in developing tools to monitor and evaluate the effects of a program/activity.

  • You have an affinity with the strengths-based approach coming from positive psychology.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

As an MHPSS coordinator, you will receive a salary in line with the character and purpose of our organization. Regarding your wellbeing, we find it important that you have room for relaxation and rest. You are therefore entitled to 200 vacation hours per year.

Initially, you will be given a temporary contract for one year. An extension after this period may be possible, with a maximum commitment of two years.**
