KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :
Program Implementation:

• In collaboration with the Child Protection coordinator/ MHPSS Officer/Manager, design a strategy, priorities, activities and work plan for resilience and psychosocial activities with children, parents and target communities.
• Support mobilisation, awareness raising and initiation of resilience and PSS interventions with local communities, parents, schools and children and young people including taking a lead in processes for estabilishment and operationalisation of CFS, parenting and resilience sessions.
• Adapt materials on resilience and psychosocial support, including PSS materials for communites, parents, teachers, children and young people’s awareness raising/guidance and training in local communities, schools and CFS on resilience, PSS and parenting, to suit local context and priorities
• Support recruitment, training, placement and supervision of animators and community volunteers to support resilience and PSS interventions at the CFSs and local communities and also ensure that all animators and community volunteers are oriented, understand, sign and comply with the Child Safeguarding policy and code of conduct.
• Contribute to the development and facilitation of Case Management training modules to case workers, stakeholders, CPCs, government departments as required.
• Train the PSS facilitators and guide them to conduct the activities and ensure that they support the children in a child-friendly manner by which they empower the children to take the lead on organizing their activities and expressing their opinions in creative ways
• Ensure that all Save the Children’s resilience, PSS and CFSs interventions meet quality minimum standards in their design and implementation and that required supervision mechanisms are polace to ensure compliance.
• Provide Psychological First Aid and basic helping to the identify children and their families dealing with a range of PSS Issue .
• Support in making appropriate referrals of children and young people and/or prents/ families to local protection agencies or other services providers for case management and other services, if concerns are raised about children and young people and/ or parents by facilitators, including referral of children with special needs and recommend referrals to school counsellors or specialists, where required.
• Work with the Case Management Officer to support in building capacity of Social Workers/Caseworkers on PSS so that they can integrate PSS in their work with vulnerable children.
• Provide basic counselling support for cases with mental and psychological support.
• Work with children, and young people and parents in CFSs and on community-wide to support for children and young people’s wellbeing.
• Support the integration of child resiliency programming in community-based and education activities.
• Support the implementation of the children’s workshops/sessions and of the parent and caregiver meetings, in conjunction with the animators, and provide support when needed.
• Conduct baselines and endlines in all resilience and PSS interventions implemented including the need to conduct intake and post-session assessments for all resilience and PSS beneficiaries as well as on-going processes of observing, interviewing and interacting with children, young people and parents, teachers and local communities to gain an understanding of what they are dealing with and what support they might need.
• Work as part of Child protection team (that include a Case management officer, Child friendly Spaces (CFCs) Centers, social worker and other community facilitators, and possibly family members and teachers) to develop and implement an effective psychological support plan.
• Refers children suffering from mental health problems, such as anxiety and mood disorders like depression to case management and or/ refer to specialized MH service providers in close coordination with Case Management officer.
• Implements the CB MHPSS support as per the CB MHPSS guidelines.

General:
• Deliver results in line with the current proposals and Save the Children’s strategy
• Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, child protection mimual standard
• Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross Code of Conduct.
• Perform such other responsibilities as agreed with line management.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• Bachelor degree in Psychology or social science
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Required:
• 1 year experience in a similar post.
• Experience in having implemented psychosocial support programmes
• Experience of working directly with children and/or adolescents
• Training skills, ability to conduct trainings
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to represent Save the Children at meetings with government officials
• Capacity to work with a team and to work under pressure.
• Computer skills in word, excel, PowerPoint.
• Writing and speaking English
• Good knowledge of safety standards and legislation related to construction and rehabilitation in Iraq
• A good team worker willing to learn from others, listen and provide sound technical advice on construction that will benefit children
• Strong organizational and planning skills with good communication skills
• Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
• The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
• Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.

Desirable:
• Oral and written Language skills in English.
• Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts NGO or humanitarian programming experience.
