The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) is a nonprofit organization and is one of the only National Olympic/Paralympic Committees in the world that does not receive government funding for its Olympic and Paralympic programs, instead relying on the generosity of a committed community of sponsors and donors. Increasing philanthropic support for U.S. athletes is one of the USOPC’s highest strategic priorities, and hence, the organization has established the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation (USOPF) as the fundraising organization for the USOPC and is investing significant resources in its Development division.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Board Relations & Principal Giving, the Manager, Trustee Engagement & Special Events is responsible for developing and executing strategic engagement and stewardship strategies for members of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Foundation Trustee Council. Serving as a primary contact for the USOPF Trustee Council, the Manager will represent the USOPC and USOPF professionally and handle multiple tasks efficiently. The Manager will also be responsible for contributing to an annual Director & Trustee renewal rate in conjunction with regional development officers. In addition to managing everyday engagement, the Manager will also contribute to the department’s event engagement strategies for all major giving programs.

Here’s how you’ll have an impact:

Trustee Engagement (60%)

  • Evaluate, refine, and enhance existing Trustee engagement initiatives using a donor-centric and compelling approach, ensuring the Trustee program serves as a strong bridge between the mid-major program and the USOPF Board of Directors.
  • In consultation with the Associate Director, create and execute an annual operating plan for Trustee Relations & Special Events with measurable performance objectives and specific goals, aligned with the USOPF annual operating budget, fundraising, and stewardship priorities. Participate in assessing progress toward these goals.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, develop a robust annual engagement plan for volunteers that ensures a quarterly opportunity to engage with the USOPC, USOPF and Team USA, through events, sporting competitions, athlete visits, or other forms of communication. Work closely with regional gift officers to ensure strategic integration with annual plans and regional goals.
  • Work closely with Major Gift Officers to create bespoke and strategic gift renewal plans to contribute to the growth and retention of the USOPF major giving program. Manage the tracking of trustee-related metrics (working group participation, engagement, gift renewal, etc.) and statistics to help Major Gifts team with fundraising projections and reporting.
  • Manage the USOPF Trustee onboarding process, ensuring a warm and professional welcome. Look for ways to improve and streamline the onboarding process.
  • Partnering with the Associate Director, assist in the preparation (agenda, materials, visual aids) and logistics (scheduling, communications, space and technology needs, etc.) for USOPF Annual Meeting, USOPF Board Meetings, and key committee/working group meetings. Manage BoardEffect platform for USOPF Board meetings, including trustee profiles, meeting materials, and communications.
  • In collaboration with various staff leads, manage USOPF working groups’ calendars, meetings, and general logistics. Create meeting roadmaps, attend and annotate meetings, track action items, and help staff leads in following Governance roadmaps.
  • Participate in the creation, launch, and management of the NextGen Program, a giving program aimed at young professionals with the potential to serve as Trustees.
  • Contribute to the close connection between USOPF Directors, Trustees, major gift, and principal gift programs by facilitating communication and collaboration between the programs. Develop efficient processes to share and collect Trustee-related updates across key constituents to support stewardship and engagement.
  • Track board members’ terms of service, gift renewals, and membership on USOPF committees and working groups. Ensure all contact information and activity is captured in appropriate systems, guaranteeing quality communication and donor records. Work closely with the Sr. Counsel to ensure that committee member appointments follow the procedures outlined in the USOPF Bylaws.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to trustees, donors, and prospects in-person, via email, phone, and mail while being adaptive and anticipatory to constituents’ needs. Excel in providing creative ways to interact with constituents to bring them closer to the Olympic and Paralympic Movements and the organization’s mission.

Event Services (40%)

  • Provide unique and compelling engagement opportunities for USOPF directors and trustees. Execute on high-level event strategy and design including planning for non-Games events such as cultivation events, international event opportunities, USOPF Board and Trustee engagement events, and small dinners. Oversee annual sporting event calendars and national event strategies.
  • Act as the strategic liaison to USOPC Events & Logistics division, engaging and partnering with Event & Logistics staff to ensure seamless execution of all event details. Collaborate across Development functions and USOPC divisions to ensure efficiency and create maximum impact.
  • Work closely with regional Major Gift Officers to assist with strategic Trustee engagement opportunities, events, and small gatherings to foster a strong connection with the existing Trustee and their community of discovery prospects. Guarantee continuity among regional events bringing a high level of current USOPC and Team USA branding and execution.
  • Interface with the USOPC’s executive assistants to coordinate Executive Team members’ participation in Development activities such as planning sessions, events, and meetings with prospects/donors. Work closely with USOPF Communications department to guarantee each participating Executive is well-scripted and prepared with event objectives and current donor/prospect strategies.
  • Understand the needs and interests of USOPC leadership, USOPF staff, and donors at all giving levels. Build strong relationships to foster positive experiences which generate philanthropic support for Team USA.
  • Work closely with Associate Director and Finance liaison to manage events budget and quarterly forecasting. Manage the contract process for all events-related contracts, including routing through USOPC’s contract management system.
  • Serve in an operational role in the USOPF Games Hospitality Program. Utilize knowledge of the Trustee population and event management to provide critical input and ensure an inspiring Games Hospitality experience for USOPF’s major donors.

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be effective:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience organizing events, planning meetings, and coordinating projects of various sizes and scope
  • 3-5 years’ experience managing volunteers and engaging vendors and/or service providers
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities
  • Strong ability to develop clear and aesthetically appealing materials
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail

Here are some things that will make you super competitive for this role:

  • Prior experience in board cultivation, development, and stewardship and/or individual major gifts fundraising
  • Nonprofit/fundraising experience preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; produces quality, error-free materials consistent with USOPC/USOPF expectations
  • Demonstrated history of project/program management skills
  • Ability to collaborate at all levels with staff, donors, volunteers, executives, service providers, and the public

  • This is role will either be a hybrid-based role that will regularly work from the Colorado Springs Downtown Headquarters and remotely OR
  • A home based role located in Los Angeles, CA

Here’s some more information you need to know:

  • Hiring Pay Range
  • Colorado: $55,567 – $70,571 per year
  • Los Angeles: $64,326 – $81,694 per year
  • This is a full-time, exempt, position intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program at a 15% target. This program is subject to change or elimination by the USOPC at any time at its sole discretion.
  • Benefits: This position will be eligible for USOPC benefits.
