The Metallurgist Intern under the supervision of the Senior Metallurgical Engineer will assist in providing technical support for metallurgical feasibility studies at Mountain Pass Rare Earth Mine. The position will be approximately 16 weeks in length with flexibility on timelines and duration This is normally a Monday to Friday 8hr/day shift position, but it will periodically require short notice flexibility for working other shifts and weekends. Essential Duties:

  • Assist in conducting metallurgical studies and procedure development at the milling and flotation facility.
  • Perform laboratory test work and analyze the metallurgical test data to draw valid conclusions.
  • Creates and maintains lab documentation such as log sheets and SOPs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of mineral beneficiation and methods used in metallurgical and processing analyses.
  • A valid Driver’s License and a good driving record are required to drive company vehicles on the property.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with flotation (lab-scale test, pilot scale test) and other mineral processing applications such as magnetic separation and gravity separation.
  • Experience with mineralogical analysis equipment such as XRF, ICP, XRD, etc.
  • Ability to complete a task with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in computer skills including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, and statistical software.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
