Job Overview/Summary: The Preferred Communities department at the IRC in Boise ensures that ORR eligible populations with unique, emergency, and/or long-term needs have the support necessary to integrate into their new communities and become self-sufficient. Located within the Preferred Communities department, the Mental Health program is a new initiative to address the mental health needs of the refugee community. Working alongside the Mental Health

Peer caseworkers, and key mental health interns, the Mental Health Supervisor will be responsible for assisting with overseeing the existing Mental Health program and helping to shape and/or expand the program to meet the demand for mental health care. Reports to Preferred Communities Manager. Provides direct supervision to Mental Health caseworkers and MSW interns.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership, management and accountability of the mental health program
  • Manage and oversee program budgets, outputs and outcomes
  • Supervise Mental Health Caseworkers and provide non-clinical supervision of mental health interns/volunteers
  • Work with IRC Boise and IRC national leadership to develop protocols that serve and protect IRC clients being seen for mental health services
  • Utilize approved clinical interventions and screening tools with high risk and high needs clients participating in Mental Health services
  • Provide clinical and psychoeducational services through individual and group level activities
  • Utilize DSM-V criteria to provide clinical impressions and diagnostic information following clinical interactions
  • Create client centered objectives and action plans, monitor progress, and make changes where necessary to meet client goals and needs
  • Support Mental Health Caseworkers in coordinating a team of MSW field placement students, mental health professionals, and interns to deliver quality mental health care to refugee populations
  • Oversee screening program using tools designed to identify survivors of gender based violence and screen for trauma in recently arrived refugees
  • Connect clients identified using screening tools with appropriate follow up care and track data collected through screenings for reporting purposes
  • Serve as a resource for domestic violence intervention/guidance and establish partnerships with area domestic violence shelters
  • Coordinate a system of response for IRC mental health clients facing emergencies outside of scheduled appointments
  • Support Preferred Communities Manager in a training program for interns to coordinate scheduling for mental health appointments and ensure appointment completion
  • Clearly communicate patients’ needs to direct service staff (case workers/employment specialists)
  • Sustain established partnerships with community mental health professionals and conduct outreach to expand partnerships
  • Communicate with IRC headquarters staff, including Mental Health Technical Advisor, to share mental health program progress
  • Attend IRC national webinars and conference calls addressing mental health program development and other refugee mental health topics
  • Track patient data using multiple tracking systems, including cloud based programs and electronic record keeping
  • Generate accurate and timely reports, as required by funders and IRC

Key Working Relationships:

  • Position Reports to: Preferred Communities Manager
  • Position directly supervises: Mental Health Caseworkers, MSW student field interns
  • Other Internal and/or external contacts: mental health staff, mental health clients, volunteers, interns.

Job Requirements:

  • Mental health professional license in good standing, including, but not limited to Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Masters of Social Work (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (LMFT) required.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible program delivery experience required; preferably within a social service-focused, not-for-profit organization.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to navigate effectively within a large, multi-funder, mission-driven organization.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written required; bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of our client base strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a key team member.
  • Self- starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to maintain a small caseload and provide assessment, intervention, and evaluation based on DSM-IV diagnostic criteria and evidence-based intervention methods to all refugee populations
  • Assist with facilitating and co-facilitating focus groups around well-being for all refugee populations as assigned
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area (home visits, agency visits, service provider visits etc).
  • Well organized, high attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Self-direction and initiative to take the lead and to follow through to completion.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Environment: Standard office environment. Occasionally, there will be meetings with partners in the community or local field trips taken with clients.
