1. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION
MdM – Greece
Médecins du Monde – Greece (MdM – Greece), founded in 1990, is a medical, humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization, member of the International Network of Médecins du Monde, which today consists of 17 delegations. The driving principle of the organization is that every human being has the right to humanitarian assistance, regardless of gender, origin, sexual orientation, religion, ideology or political beliefs.
Médecins du Monde plans and implements multisectoral projects and initiatives that reflect the ever-changing needs of the beneficiary population. MdM-Greece is a human rights advocacy organization that is here to provoke an immediate and real change in the lives of vulnerable people.
MdM-Greece in Ukraine
MdM-Greece is present in Ukraine since 2022. Initially responding to emergency created following the Russian invasion of Feb 24, 2022, MdM-Greece has partnered with local organizations in Chernivtsi and Sumy, has forwarded significant loads of humanitarian aid in the country, has operated Medical Mobile Units facilitating access to PHC for rural and isolated communities and has rehabilitated and equipped hospitals to support the local health system. In the spirit of localization, MdM-Greece supports local (health) systems and economy and collaborates with local partners that are spearheading its ground operations, especially in challenging areas such as Sumy.
2. DESCRIPTION OF GENERAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The MHPSS Officer will assist in the implementation, day-to-day follow up and monitoring of MHPSS activities, working closely with the MHPSS Coordinator. The role involves supporting the coordination with other local and international MHPSS actors, facilitating the implementation of MhGAP and PM+ trainings, participating in field coordination meetings and developing community-based activities and awareness raising campaigns in cooperation with other MdM-Greece associates and partners. The MHPSS officer will also provide administrative and logistics support, contribute to reporting and assist in building relationships with communities and stakeholders to enhance service delivery. Additional responsibilities include staying updated on MHPSS best practices and ensuring alignment with MdM’s values and humanitarian standards.
3. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
- Assist in the implementation of MHPSS activities under the guidance of MdM-Greece MHPSS Coordinator and MdM-Greece MHPSS expert.
- Assist in organizing training sessions and workshops for local teams and community members to enhance MHPSS capacity.
- Participate in scheduled coordination meetings of the MHPSS TWG, Health and Protection Clusters etc., representing MdM-Greece and keeping minutes of these meetings.
- Support the coordination and development of Trainings for Trainers in PM+ and MhGAP.
- Help organize and facilitate psychosocial support sessions, community-based activities, and awareness raising campaigns.
- Provide administrative and logistical support, ensuring smooth execution of MdM-Greece MHPSS activities.
- Contribute to monitoring and reporting on MHPSS activities, ensuring proper data collection and documentation.
- Support in building and maintaining relationships with local communities, service providers, and other stakeholders to strengthen MHPSS training and service delivery.
- Stay informed about MHPSS best practices and promote knowledge-sharing within the team.
- Ensure compliance with MdM’s principles, values, and humanitarian standards in all activities.
- Implement the project in line with MdM-Greece and global MHPSS standards and guidelines and closely coordinate with Program Supervisory staff.
4. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Studies or a related field from a recognized institution is required. A combination of a different academic degree with at least three (3) years of hands-on, professional MHPSS experience in Ukraine will also be accepted.
- Prior experience in MHPSS programming, psychosocial support, community-based initiatives, in humanitarian sector or/and in relevant position in administrative and/or academic roles, is required.
- Demonstrated experience in teamwork and team-building skills, with a collaborative work approach.
- Demonstrated experience in community work and/or participatory research and/or working directly with vulnerable groups
- Good knowledge of English (writing and verbal)
- Good computer skills and very good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Prior engagement as a volunteer is desirable
- Engagement as a volunteer during the current crisis in Ukraine is desirable
