Since its creation in 2009, ALIMA has treated more than 7 million patients. Today ALIMA works in 12 countries in Western and Central Africa. In 2020, we developed 41 humanitarian medical response projects to meet the needs of populations affected by conflict, epidemics and extreme poverty. All of these projects support national health authorities through nearly 357 health structures (including 45 hospitals and 312 health centers). We work in partnership, especially with local NGOs, whenever possible to ensure that our patients benefit from the expertise wherever it is, whether in their country or the rest of the world. In addition, to improve the humanitarian response, we are carrying out operational and clinical research projects, particularly in the field of the fight against malnutrition and hemorrhagic viral fevers. ALIMA is also leading operations in response to the covid-19 pandemic across all of our missions.

ALIMA’S TEAM: More than 2000 people currently work for ALIMA. The field teams, as close as possible to the patients, receive their support from the coordination teams generally based in the capitals of the countries of intervention. These receive support from the 4 desk teams and the emergency and opening service team based at the operational headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. The Paris and New York teams are actively working on fundraising as well as representing ALIMA. The rest of the ALIMA Galaxy includes individuals and partner teams who work on behalf of other organizations such as medical NGOs BEFEN, ALERTE Santé, SOS Médecins / KEOOGO, AMCP, research organizations PACCI, INSERM, Universities of Bordeaux or Copenhagen, the NGO Solidarités International and many others.

COUNTRIES WHERE WE WORK: Mali, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Guinea,South Sudan, Mauritania & Sudan.

THE WORK WE DO covers: Primary and Secondary Health Care, with a main focus on children and women – including treatment and prevention of acute malnutrition, maternal health, mental health, response to epidemics (Ebola, Cholera, Measles, Dengue, Lassa Fever), surgery, displaced populations, and gender based violence, Covid 19.

ALIMA in Ukraine

Mission Location: Remote support to the Ukraine mission

We will focus its effort in South Ukraine to provide emergency primary health care and support to hospitals in the war zone of Mykolaiv Oblast and around. The main objective is to reduce the mortality and suffering among the population affected by the war in this area through 4 axes:

● Reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with chronic disease and communicable diseases among the isolated population in Mykolaiv Oblast

● Reduce mental health burden through psychological care in Mykolaiv Oblast

● Support hospitals to deliver trauma and intensive health care in Mykolaiv City

● Ensuring a rapid response mechanism to delivered health care support to affected population

TERM OF REFERENCES PURPOSE

The ToR is intended to call for

● Training consultancy to prepare and conduct introductory course on Psychological First Aid (PFA) to identified beneficiaries in Mykolaiv with a target of 100 persons trained

● Technical advisor consultancy to provide expertise in mental health services in conflict environment

MAIN MISSION

Training outcomes:

Based on WHO reference guideline on PFA, and Alima framework for mental health inteventions, the training consultancy focus on acquaint selected 100 beneficiaries, professionals and volunteers whom are working with people affected by the ongoing conflict by knowledge and techniques of PFA. The training consultancy is expected to achieve the following training outcomes for each group:
a) Participants are aware on how crisis is affecting people psychologically.

b) Participants have good understanding of PFA concept, and its potential beneficiaries.

c) Participants have good background on PFA provision strategies.

d) Participants have learned effective communications skills with people with distress.

e) Participants have basic knowledge and skills to practice the PFA on target beneficiaries.

f) Participants has common understanding on Stress management techniques.

Training Methodology:

● The facilitator will be required to use simple and understandable training techniques and/or methodologies that can easily be understood by the participants.

● Participatory training will stimulate learning and facilitate discussion. Relevant case analysis, lectures, and presentations will be the main training methodologies in addition to case studies.

Trainer responsibility and deliverables:

● The consultant will have the responsibility to prepare, implement and evaluate the trainings as per intended outcomes mentioned in the ToR.

● The consultant will indicate a training plan and schedule, the resources/materials needed, and topics intended for the training, as required by PPTA to achieve the training objectives as specified in the TOR.

● By the end of the training, the consultant will develop a simple PFA manual to be used by trainees in their work field.

● By the end of the training, the consultant should submit a training report for consultancy services completed.

Technical Advisor Consultancy:

● Provides recommendations on the mental health care strategy, planning and implementation of activities

● Contribute to the development of partnerships to enhance ALIMA’s response capacity in providing specialized mental health services in Ukraine and possibly beyond

● Contributes to the monitoring of the mental health activities

● Documents the experience gained by ALIMA from this intervention in Ukraine, to serve ALIMA’s capacity building in providing Mental Health Services in conflict settings

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Qualifications

● Master’s in Clinical Psychology or equivalent

● A minimum of 5 years of Proven experience at psychological scope

● Proven experience of conducting at least 100 training hours

● Experience working with vulnerable people in an intercultural context

● English fluent – Ukrainian, Russian would be an asset

Contract term:

● Contract term: consultancy contract under French law

● Number of days: up to 30 – from Mid-May to end September 2022
