We are currently recruiting a Medical Supply Chain & Procurement Manager to be part of our exciting new project building the capacity of 20 local pharmaceutical and medical device suppliers in four countries where Relief International (RI) has existing programming: Afghanistan, Yemen, Myanmar, and Syria.

This role will ideally based in one of our regions of Africa, Asia or the Middle East. We will also consider staff from other countries where RI operate.

This is a home based remote role requiring at least 30% travel.

About the opportunity

RI has recently entered into a partnership with Takeda Pharmaceuticals to implement a 4 year medical supply chain project. We will working on developing capacity of 20 local pharmaceutical and medical device suppliers in four countries where RI has existing programming: Afghanistan, Yemen, Myanmar, and Syria.

In these countries, local pharmaceutical and medical device suppliers face gaps in the timely supply of quality pharmaceuticals and medical supplies that are required to support humanitarian response. The proposed capacity building will enable the suppliers to meet internationally recognized standards required to support humanitarian responses with quality medical supplies, benefiting not just RI, but the humanitarian capacity as whole.

You will be working with the Deputy Director of Global Procurement to support the project activities and deliverables. Providing coordination to ensure that the program’s objectives are met in all 4 countries.

This will include leading on all medical procurement within these 4 countries both local, regional and international while also supporting suppliers, developing relationships and ensuring best practice processes are developed and followed to enable timely and efficient quality local medical procurement to be achieved.

A key element of this role will be to work in collaboration with the Project Supply Chain Manager to ensure all learnings are incorporated into the project deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

Support medical procurement in the target countries to better understand the supply chain into and within, as well as the local supplier capability.

  • This includes
    • supporting the target countries with all medical procurements, including managing international and local sourcing and delivery
    • meeting with local suppliers to give feedback on quotes, orders regarding quality and performance to help suppliers improve
    • support with setting up Framework Agreements with local medical suppliers to develop their understanding of the quality standards required by RI
  • Document the supply chains used by RI and the local suppliers and the process, regulatory and local context challenges to RI sourcing local quality assured medical supplies
  • Make recommendations to modify RI internal procurement processes to enable more local medical sourcing of quality assured supplies
  • Support the development, implementation and continuous updating of an RI medical supply quality assurance certificates database that includes quality assurance certificates for medical products that suppliers in the target countries can source based on their supply chains

About you

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • You will have proven experience

    • In sourcing, procurement and delivery of quality assured medical supplies
    • In coordinating programs with a technical scope similar to the activity, especially focusing on medical supply chain.
    • Leadership skills in working collaboratively with donors, host country institutions, and international organizations.
    • Working on projects that have large medical supply components in complex contexts
    • In the certification of medical product quality assurance
    • Working in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and technical areas.
  • You must also be able to demonstrate you bring

    • As a supply chain professional, medical procurement or supply chain qualification from a recognised institution
    • Good working knowledge of donor and other international medical quality assurance standards
    • Ability to work with remote management approaches and achieve results toward a common goal.
    • Skills to identify and analyse problems independently and recommend effective solutions.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Fluency in English required. Fluency in Arabic is an advantage
