Job description

Location: Remote with 50% time spent in GSD office locations; this position is based in the continental United States.

Summary:

Working in the Logistics Department and closely with the Medical Operations Manager, the Medical Logistics Manager ensures that Global Support and Development (GSD) is able to provide for both team internal medical care and community health support by procuring, storing, shipping, and resupplying essential medications and medical material. This includes but is not limited to the legal movement of prescription medications, controlled medications, compressed medical gas, medical equipment, and supplies to the area of operation and returning them to the United States.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee procurement of all medications and medical materials for use by GSD, as well as donations from GSD to its partners, as required by the Medical Department;
  • Effect international transport of all GSD required medications and materials, including tracking and management of import/export processes necessary for delivery;
  • Manage safe storage and operational readiness of GSD medical material and backstock in collaboration with cache warehouse staff;
  • Work closely with the Medical Department to ensure that any changes to the medical stocks meet the operational needs of the team;
  • Draft and execute policies concerning GSD importation, exportation, storage, disposal, and sourcing of medications and medical material;
  • Support GSD teams as needed for training, outreach, and deployments;
  • Liaise with relevant vendors, partners, and foreign and US government Customs and Medical Ministries/Departments;
  • Alongside the Medical Operations Manager, manage and oversee the Medical Specialist’s day to day activities;
  • Be engaged on the subject of humanitarian impact.
  • Support the Logistics Director in the development and expansion of GSD’s medical supply footprint in the Caribbean and South Pacific region;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education/Experience:

Candidate should have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, graduate degree a plus;
  • Experience with inventory and procurement software systems;
  • Demonstrated seven (7) years in medical supply management;
  • Experience in the importation and exportation of prescription medications, controlled medications, compressed medical gas, medical equipment, and supplies to countries outside the United States;
  • Firm understanding of both US and international customs regulations as pertaining to medication and medical material;
  • Experience in project management and process improvement;
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously under pressure and in remotely supervised settings;
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to shift tasks rapidly, be self-motivated, and have strong verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with basic office software (i.e., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.);
  • A demonstrated ability to analyze cultural context;
  • Multiple years in a start-up organization or active engagement in the creation of a new department;
  • Two (2) or more years in a government agency focused on development programs or multinational engagement;
  • Two (2) or more years in a non-profit humanitarian organization;
  • Two (2) or more years supporting a medical structure

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions;

  • The employee must be able to travel and work irregular or extended hours;
  • The employee must be able to stand, walk, and sit regularly, have manual dexterity, reach or stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, speak, and hear within conversational range.
  • The employee must be able to climb or balance occasionally;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus;
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may encounter the following scenarios while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE):
  • Be exposed rarely to fumes or airborne particles;
  • Be exposed rarely to excessive decibels of noise;
  • Be exposed rarely to toxic or caustic chemicals;
  • Work occasionally near moving mechanical parts;
  • Be exposed occasionally to the risk of electrical shock or vibration.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $127,000.00 – $165,000.00 per year
