General context of the project
The Medical Unit provides technical and analytical support to the Program Department and to INTERSOS missions on:

  1. Developing country/regional medical strategies
  2. Approve/validate the technical component of all project proposals containing health and nutrition components.
  3. Approve/validate the technical component of all key reports for donors containing health and nutrition components.
  4. Ensure the implementation of standard and/or national protocol
  5. Supervise the start-up, progress and quality of medical activities with regular visits and contacts with on-site technical staff
  6. Develop SOP and tools in order to standardize and facilitate field technical work and improve supervision and analysis
  7. Representing INTERSOS at the international H&N fora
  8. Participate in the recruitment process of medical expat personnel and the evaluation and development of expat / national staff
  9. Provide technical support to other department and other dossier

General purpose of the position
The Medical Implementation Manager is part of INTERSOS Medical Unit, participates in defining, planning, and monitoring medical activities and programs in both the HQ (30%) and the field (70%), in accordance with INTERSOS medical strategy.

Main responsibilities and tasks
In collaboration with INTERSOS Medical Unit and the Programs Department, the Medical Implementation Manager will plan, implement, and monitor health & nutrition activities in line with established work plans and INTERSOS internal protocols.
The above will include:

  • He/she is the focal point for medical issues of the mission/project under his/her supervision. He/she is responsible for implementing and adapting the medical policies, medical strategies, medical guidelines, medical standards, and tools in INTERSOS projects in the country under his/her supervision. In particular
  • He/she is responsible to participate into the recruitment of the expat technical staff and coordinate, support and supervise the medical coordinator in the field
  • He/she contributes to the design of the technical part of project proposals to be submitted to international donors and private foundations.
  • He/she is responsible for medical data collection, analysis, and reporting in order to ensure a proper monitoring of the programs
  • He/she supervises, coordinates and trains health staff under his/her supervision in the field in order to support and improve their performances and to strengthen the health programme, making sure that protocols are respected, and the strategy is understood and implemented.
  • He/She will conduct monitoring field visit to better understand the context, supervise the ongoing activities, and coach/coordinate with the medical coordinators,
  • He/she is responsible for supporting the opening of new missions as well as take part to emergency missions
  • He/she supervise, conducts and support in depth needs assessments and exploratory missions in new areas of intervention or in areas where INTERSOS is already present
  • He/she will coordinate with the emergency unit to develop a medical strategy in case of emergency or new opening
  • He/she fill the gaps of vacant positions of the medical coordinators for a maximum of 8 weeks.
  • He/she follows up on some specific dossiers under request of INTERSOS Head of Medical Unit. In particular
  • In line with INTERSOS 3-years strategy he/she will support into the design of a “community-based approach strategy” and a “Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)” standard package.
  • He/she will support the mapping and identification of clusters/WG/TF relevant to the INTERSOS three-year strategy; participates in networking at central, regional, and national level on technical issues with other health NGOs; represents INTERSOS with global health and nutrition clusters
  • The tasks listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive

Required profile and experience
Education
Degree in medicine or other paramedical studies (only nurse). Desirable specialization in Tropical Medicine or a degree in Public Health

Professional Experience
Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as Medical focal point in the humanitarian sector, especially in fragile and unstable environments
