UK-Med

Location: Ukraine, supporting the coordination of primary health teams

Hours: Work will be full-time. Immediate start required, with a minimum of 6 weeks availability

Pay: Competitive benchmarked humanitarian salary scale

Are you an experienced medical coordinator skilled in coordinating responses to medical emergencies?

UK-Med is a humanitarian INGO that has been responding to disasters and health emergencies for more than 20 years. We train medical teams, both in the UK and worldwide, so they are ready to respond when epidemics, conflict and natural disasters hit. We are core partners, providing the clinical component of the UK Emergency Medical Team (UK EMT) in line with WHO standards.

Our responses are staffed from our Register of surge responders. Register members undergo extensive training and vetting in advance, so they can be quickly deployed to where they are most needed. Register members who join a response team are offered a fixed-term contract for the response and paid in line with our globally benchmarked pay scales.

We are seeking several new people to join our teams in Ukraine, to be available to lead our medical teams in Medical Coordinator / Medical Team Lead roles. You will be able to make yourself available to work in Ukraine immediately for 6 weeks (longer availability may be an advantage), supporting the health needs of internally displaced persons.

Our ideal candidates will be experienced Medical Coordinators who can guide, develop and monitor the overarching implementation of clinical activities in humanitarian responses. Our Medical Coordinators need to be able to work with a variety of clinical staff and stakeholders to ensure relevant, technically sound, and high-quality health provision is provided where needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervision and line management of clinical personnel
  • Supporting the clinical team to be consistent with established best practices and global technical standards
  • Working in collaboration with other leaders (e.g. Field Managers, Head of Mission) to ensure effective and impactful health activities
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with partners including Ministry of Health, WHO, partner INGOs
  • Undertaking health needs assessments as necessary
  • Designing and delivering training and capacity building activities as required
  • Ensuring effective and comprehensive data collection to inform programming

You will be capable of providing technical oversight for overall medical responses, including any advisory activities, trainings, and case management, and ensuring all activities are technically sound and of high quality. You will be a skilled manager and technical supervisor, able to get the best out of clinical staff and stakeholders. You will be accountable, with experience in the assessment, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of health activities.

You will be determined, high performing, compassionate and collaborative, as well as being committed to learning and supporting others to learn. Language skills will be an advantage.

We offer excellent learning opportunities and occasional opportunities to work in international humanitarian responses, should you decide to join our Register at a later date.
