General Background

The OEC: The Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC) is an international intergovernmental organisation, founded in January 2020 by countries from across the Global South, to “contribute to the equitable, just, and prosperous social transformation of societies by promoting balanced and inclusive education, in order to attain the fundamental rights to liberty, justice, dignity, sustainability, social cohesion, and material and immaterial security for the peoples of the world”.

The main functions of the Department of Public Relations and Engagement (PURE) are:

  1. Democratise and disseminate the UDBIE and the programmatic activities of the OEC;
  2. Bring attention to major issues of the OEC agenda, engaging with the general public to ensure its involvement and co-ownership through two-way communication channels;
  3. Build a strong presence of the OEC on digital platforms and develop durable relations and partnerships with the news media;
  4. Support other departments to achieve their goals through strategic communication.

Duties

Under the supervision of the Chief of Section, News Media Relations, the Media Relations Officer works with traditional, digital, and social media for the purpose of informing the public of the OEC’s mission, vision, policies, practices, impact and results in a positive, consistent and credible manner.

  • Working with the Chief of Section, develop and implement media strategies to enhance public awareness, understanding and support for the OEC in media in the Global South and beyond, through various platforms.
  • Develop, cultivate and nurture relations and contacts with journalists, editors, correspondents.
  • Accredit journalists to the OEC
  • Handle enquiries from journalists and other media contacts
  • Monitor current affairs for issues of interest in, and coverage of, the OEC within the media, and bring them to the attention of management
  • Prepare various documents intended for the media, talking points, media lines, press releases, articles, brochures and other written documents for information purposes
  • Produce content for use on OCE social media, digital and other platforms to promote on-site and virtual events.
  • Organise news media/ press conferences

Experience as a journalist or news reporter and effective use of social media is an added advantage.
