Who we are?

IDA is an international independent non-governmental organization providing medical and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflicts, natural disasters and epidemics regardless of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
IDA was founded in 2012 by Syrian doctors from Aleppo in response to the healthcare and humanitarian crisis in Syria.

IDA Syria is the main healthcare provider in the Northern Aleppo/Syria area, working closely with 500,000 IDPs and 700,000 host communities through 20 healthcare facilities and other health and nutrition projects

During last year, IDA has provided 1.2 million services in Heath, Nutrition, WaSH and Camp Management

  • Overview
    The Media Officer is an integral part of the Communications and Advocacy unit, directly running the day-to-day operations of the organization’s communication and visibility work. They support the Communications and Advocacy Manager in managing media interactions, creating and disseminating compelling content and enhancing the organization’s visibility and public image. They are also a key focal point between the HQ and the field.
    Key Responsibilities
    Reporting
    The Media Officer reports to the Communications and Advocacy Manager and provides regular updates on media activities.
    Content Creation
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality written and visual content, including press releases, articles, blog posts, and social media updates in English and Arabic.
  • Handle the monthly donor requests for communications materials and maintain an organized content calendar to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Handle internal IDA employee requests for communication content creation.
  • Suggest additional IDA project coverage for social media posts.
  • Oversee the development of publications, reports, and newsletters with the Graphic Designer.
  • Manage the deliverables of the production company for outsourced content work.
  • Upload and update all IDA photographs and videos on the archival database on the IDA servers.
    Social Media Management
  • Manage and update the organization’s social media accounts.
  • Develop and execute social media strategies to engage with the online community.
  • Monitor social media trends and conversations relevant to the organization’s work.
    Media Relations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, Arab and international media outlets, in particular inside Syria.
  • Pitch stories, press releases, and interview opportunities to the media.
  • Coordinate and facilitate interviews and media appearances for the organization’s representatives.
  • Monitor media coverage and report on relevant news and trends.
    Internal Communication
  • Collaborate with internal departments to gather information and stories.
  • Facilitate internal communication and ensure staff are informed about media and communication activities.
    Team Management
  • Lead and supervise the Graphic Designer in Turkey HQ:
  • Supervise the work and schedule of the Graphic Designer.
  • Manage the field photo-graphers and videog-raphers, ensuring effective collaboration and meeting departmental goals:
  • Manage the work and schedules of the photographers and any other field-based communication teams.
  • Be the central point of contact for field-based communications.
  • Set team objectives, monitor progress, and manage work dynamics.
  • Mentor field teams and provide them with feedback for improving coverage.
    Third party companies:
  • If work is outsourced to a third-party content creation company, the Media Officer is responsible for overseeing their deliverables.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Initiate new media project proposals, storytelling ideas or new technologies that can improve workflow and content.
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by the Communications and Advocacy Manager.
  • Translate content from English to Arabic.

These are personal qualities that influence how successful people are in their job, the following are essential for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a communications or media role with leadership experience.
  • Familiarity with the humanitarian or development sectors, notably the Syria crisis.
  • Proficiency in media relations, including liaising with journalists.
  • Understanding of advocacy strategies, storytelling techniques and the journalism industry.
  • Crisis communication experience is a plus.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, social media platforms, and digital technologies.
  • Fluent in Arabic and English.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a multicultural setting and deliver high-quality work.
  • Compliance with IDA Policies and Procedures including Standart of Conduct
