Media and Communication Specialist NORCAP

NORCAP seeks creative and collaborative media and communication specialist.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic communication and media support to NORCAP, with a special focus on public media. You will be part of the communications team that is responsible for safeguarding and strengthening the NORCAP brand, raising awareness of our work and advocating to improve the situation for people affected by war, conflict, and natural disasters.

What we are looking for:

NORCAP is looking for a highly qualified Media & Communications Specialist with relevant media/communication adviser experience, preferably in the humanitarian, development, or peacebuilding field to ensure a good understanding of the communication needs and challenges in such contexts.

What you will do:

Some of your specific responsibilities include:

• Contribute to producing, updating, and implementing the NORCAP communication strategy and action plan.
• Promote, advocate for, and raise awareness about NORCAP’s work, impact, and results through a variety of communication channels, in close cooperation with staff and global experts. Produce and implement media and advocacy plans for selected thematic events.
• Responsible for initiating, producing, and pitching global newsworthy stories to mainstream media through direct contact with journalists, press releases, photos, and footage.
• Monitor ongoing public debates to analyze the need for specific communication initiatives to safeguard NORCAP’s position and reputation. Contribute to crisis communication as needed.
• Work closely with staff, experts, and partners to collect content, share information and statistics on NORCAP’s work, thematic priorities, emerging fields, and geographic regions.
• Advise, train and support NORCAP staff and experts on media, communication, and public advocacy, including crisis communication and spokesperson responsibilities.
• Contribute to NORCAP’s global social media accounts as needed.
• Responsible for developing and maintaining a strong media network, including building relations with journalists.
• Any other responsibilities falling under the section/department’s mandate, as instructed by the line manager.

What you will bring:

• Minimum five years of relevant media/communication adviser experience, preferably in the humanitarian, development, or peacebuilding field to ensure a good understanding of the communication needs and challenges in such contexts.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education in journalism, media relations, or PR
• Professional knowledge of humanitarian principles, international affairs and general knowledge of the development and peacebuilding sectors.
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
• Fluency in written and verbal English and Norwegian.
• Knowledge of standard ICT tools.
• Experience with developing and producing content for media, social media and websites.
• Results-oriented.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to quickly acquire knowledge.
• Strong ability to motivate and follow up colleagues.
• Strong ability to collaborate and communicate.

• Duty station: NRC Oslo.
• Contract: National 1 year contract.
• Salary/benefits: Grade 9 on NRC’s regional salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
