About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the South Sudan programme:

South Sudan is one of the youngest, poorest and least developed countries world-wide. The 2013 outbreak of hostilities has led to thousands of people being killed or wounded, and hundreds of thousands of people being displaced by the violence. MAG has been successfully working in South Sudan since 2004, to clear landmines/unexploded ordnance and deliver mine risk education to at-risk populations in a constantly challenging environment.

About the role:

The Mechanical Support Manager will be responsible for ensuring that MAG’s vehicle fleet and mechanical assets are managed and maintained in order to support our operations in South Sudan. As well as ensuring effective and timely maintenance, servicing and repair of the MAG fleet and mechanical assets, the postholder will also be expected to lead the day to day strategic management of MAG’s heavy and light vehicles mechanical assets, generators and workshops to ensure high standards of performance and safety. A key part of this role will be training national staff to strengthen their capacity to conduct maintenance, repairs and the correct use of tools, equipment, vehicles and mechanical assets.

About you:

The successful candidate will have experience in mechanical and fleet management, including plant machinery and Tiller and Flail remote platforms. You must have experience of maintaining and repairing a large fleet of vehicles and a wide range of mechanical assets; this includes diagnostics; welding (welding/arc welding specific, TIG and MIG welding desirable) and preventative maintenance. Communication skills are essential to this role as the successful candidate will need to have experience managing and capacity building a team of national staff and in designing and delivering training in the repair and maintenance of fleet and other machinery. You should also have the ability to find creative solutions to issues that arise and experience of providing technical expertise to develop existing fleet management policies and procedures.
