Mechanic Assistant

Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the National Fleet Officer and the direct supervision of the Mechanic in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate will be providing support and assistance to the Mechanic in the maintenance and repair of our client cars, trucks, forklifts, crane, generators, and other machines owned by or under the responsibility of our client.

Role objectives

• Prepare daily accomplishment report to be submitted to the chief mechanic.

• Assist the chief mechanic in preparing daily inventory of the tools and spare parts.

• Assist in maintaining cleanliness of all the vehicle and equipments. Provide weekly clean up on all vehicles.

• Assist in conducting routine maintenance activities such as oil and filter change, checking all fluid levels and grease when necessary, changing and rotating tires, installing and servicing batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts.

• Assist the Mechanic in the performance of the mechanical repairs as required.

• Performs safety inspections on vehicles and equipments.

• May work with diagnostic tools and provide reports and data to the mechanic to assist with repairs.

• Pick up and deliver vehicle parts and supplies.

• Maintain work areas and promote safety by cleaning work areas and removing hazardous material such as oil, gasoline and other fluids.

• Strictly adhere to our client’s policies and procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment.

• Undertake work related travel at the request and approval of the COM.

• Other duties as assigned or as may be required for this position.

Key competencies

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree with two years of relevant work experience; and/or

• Completed secondary education with four years of relevant work experience

• Valid Driving license with clean driving record.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience in automotive repair/mechanical experience is preferred.

SKILLS

• Good communication skills

• Knowledge on the tools and how to use them

• Familiarity with both gasoline and diesel equipment

• Resourcefulness, strength and agility

• Good interpersonal skills, diligence and dedication
