Reporting into the Director of Impact, the primary responsibilities of this role will be to support the implementation of our carbon reduction goals in Scopes 1, 2, and 3, in line with our Science Based Target and our Ethical Sourcing approach. This role will work collaboratively and cross-functionally with internal teams, like procurement and marketing, to develop specific objectives and action plans that are consistent with our mission and then manage the implementation of these objectives. The successful candidate will also help identify new opportunities and technologies to meet both our short-term and long-term goals and will support various teams in implementing such technologies. With support from the sustainability team, this role will provide training and education internally to support an impact mindset and sustainability culture.

The ideal candidate is ambitious and passionate about problem solving, sustainability, and pets of course. This role will help define strategic pathways to decarbonize our fast-growing company and stay true to our mission of sourcing better meat from a better place. Being part of a cohesive team and solving complex sustainability problems, the ideal candidate will contribute to creating strategies for change and win buy-in from stakeholders across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities (If this looks enticing, click “Apply”!)

  • Support the development of sustainability strategy for sourcing in alignment with our ethical sourcing mission and existing carbon reduction goals
  • Support the implementation of our Scope 1, 2, and 3 roadmaps helping to meet key milestones and deliverables in transportation, ingredient sourcing, renewable energy, and decarbonizing manufacturing
  • Act as a facilitator and support resource to internal teams for animal welfare and sustainability topics (waste, nature, packaging, etc.), develop information and educational materials to support and build internal capabilities
  • Assist internal teams with identifying, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on actions that will deliver on our Science Based Target and our Scope 3 reduction commitment
  • Support the development of internal and external communications programs on our impact and mission work to customers, on social media, and through annual reports

What you bring to the table

  • Desire to make a meaningful impact on the planet and animals in our supply chain
  • Strong sense of teamwork with the ability to be both a leader and supporter
  • Enthusiasm for complex problem solving and logic to support
  • Experience in working autonomously and within cross-functional teams to extend sustainability programs throughout the organization and deliver meaningful results
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to shift between strategic and tactical roles
  • Foundational understanding of key sustainability opportunities and challenges for our industry and for sustainability leaders outside of pet
  • Strong writing, research, and verbal skills
  • 7+ years experience in corporate sustainability or another relevant field
