Westland Insurance Group Ltd has an exciting opportunity for an Internal Underwriting Authorities Manager working in a hybrid model a few days week in Surrey, BC Head Office and the remainder at home. Remote work can be considered for employees outside of Surrey, BC. This position will be responsible for the overall administration of the in-house underwriting facilities in place with our various partners.

The Opportunity
This position will support and coordinate communication between external underwriting partners and Westland, and assist with contract placements and renewals. You will leverage your education and experience to initiate change throughout the organization by developing and driving plans for internal and external compliance.
In This Role You’ll
- Ensure compliance with our various binding authority agreements.
- Manage partner inquiries in collaboration with VP, Underwriting, SVP Insurance Operations; coordinate and draft responses.
- Manage audit inquiries including creating, driving and implementing action plans.
- Liaise and follow up with various departments and individuals across Westland on requests from our partners for information, including items arising from partner audits.
- Assist with contract renewals and new contract placements, including new products.
- Oversee documentation including binding authorities, endorsements, tracking and documenting carrier responses.
- Review wordings and update as needed to comply with carrier requirements.
- Ensure Sanctions compliances.
- Engage others to scope and solve issues; identify and deploy best solutions.
- Drives internal audit compliance across various departments in the Westland Group; occasionally complete audits as needed.
- Oversee delivery of monthly reports to partners, including underwriting risk level data reports; analyze reports as needed to identify errors.
- Monitor Gross Premium Income via monthly reports provided by Finance / IT; escalate to senior management for review and discussion as necessary.
- Assist with EQ aggregate monitoring and forecasting.
- Assist with other duties as required.
Here’s What You Bring
- Post-secondary education
- Completion of or working towards CIP or other insurance designations e.g. CAIB, CRM, etc.
- Minimum 5 years’ insurance experience in Commercial and Personal Lines, preferably Underwriting focus
- Comprehensive understanding of MGA operations, Lloyds of London, (re)insurance markets and insurance marketplace in general
- People Management experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work in a fast-past environment
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Superior negotiation skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and positively influence others to initiate change and achieve desired outcomes
- Excellent MS Office skills including Outlook, Word and Excel
