Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (with the flexibility to work in the evenings & on weekend)

Position Summary

Reporting to the Site Manager, the IPAC Manager is responsible for planning, development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of infection prevention and control measures for the Family shelter as per the guidelines of Shelter, Support and Housing Administration(SSHA). The incumbent will manage the interpretation and application of standards and provide best practice recommendations with the ultimate goal of improving resident outcomes and preventing disease outbreaks.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a point of contact for Infection Prevention and Control issues and act as an ongoing liaison with the City of Toronto for IPAC initiatives.

• Ensure organizational management and front line staff are provided with all relevant directives, communications and guidance from SSHA in relation to IPAC, and ensuring full implementation

• Manage and supervise team in the performance of duties and provide recommendations to the senior management

• Create an IPAC committee to ensure that IPAC is given appropriate consideration as a standing item during existing Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings

• Create and maintain all relevant agency IPAC policies and procedures and provides recommendations for program-specific requirements to senior management

• Manage IPAC resources, information and training to all relevant organizational staff to ensure the most up to date practices are established and operationalized

• Coordinate immediate remediation of any IPAC related deficiencies identified by SSHA’s contracted IPAC specialists, SSHA’s quality assurance team, or any other recognized inspection authority.

• Coordination of outbreak response, and leading all required collaboration with Toronto Public Health as part of outbreak management.

• Participate in all required training as directed by SSHA

• Remain current with technical knowledge/standards and emerging trends in safety and any functions related to IPAC.

• This position requires rotational on-call as scheduled.

• Other duties and special projects as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years working in a shelter environment with knowledge of the Toronto Homeless sector.

• Degree in social services, health services or health sciences (or related), or equivalent education and experience.

• Certification in Infection Prevention & Control (CIC) or Associate Infection Prevention and Control Certification (A-IPC) – or willingness to obtain within a timeframe identified.

• Strong Infection Prevention and Control management knowledge and skills.

• Strong attention to detail, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

• Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and judgement, with a demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive or confidential matters with discretion.

• Strong computer skills and a working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, MS-Teams, Google Suite, Zoom.

• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

• Experience developing and delivering training sessions is an asset.

• Superior organizational, time management and documentation skills.

• Must have experience in leading the team or supervisory experience.

• Experience in a unionized environment is strongly preferred.
