Manager, Global Sourcing & Third Party Manufacturing (TPM) Management

for its global Pharma Division Headquarter based in Allschwil- Basel.

Primary Job Function

  • Primary Abbott TPM representative in the relationship and negotiation with Global TPMs where Manufacturing Supply Agreements (MSAs) are required. Strategically manage TPM relationships in EPD’s overall Manufacturing Strategy.
  • Overall e2e accountability, including annual materials budgeting, purchasing, controlling, supply assurance, services and all quality aspects with relevant TPMs in order to meet company’s financial and operational plans
  • Ensure TPM Governance model is established per TPM to enforce clear roles and responsibilities, metrics set to manage performance and to ensure an effective supply chain. Follow a formalized on-boarding process to transition TPMs into Network following Licensing & Acquisition deals or MSAs to ensure TPMs are properly managed.
  • Financial management to fully understand the cost basis of products at TPMs. Incorporate financial management tools such as “should cost modelling” and “clean-sheet analysis” to effectively manage/negotiate product costs.
  • Accountable to establish and maintain effective cross-functional communication and working relationships between Abbott’s Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, Products and Transfer Management Group, Business Development, Legal, I&D, NPI, EHS and Regulatory with the TPM’s equivalent functions to ensure proper adherence to agreed MSA requirements.
  • Support the creation of TPM strategy for EPD Operations. Provide input regarding optimal sourcing of products under their management.
  • Partner with Abbott Procurement (OAP) and other functions to anticipate and leverage trends & best practices within contract manufacturing in order to assure supply performance and optimal cost profile
  • Leads efforts to build and execute robust project plans to manage continuous improvement activities with TPMs across all improvement aspects e.g. supply performance, margin & profitability improvement

Core Job Responsibilities

  • MSA Negotiation: Negotiate all contractual terms related to product supply. Work closely with legal function to appropriately address contractual requirements and language.
  • Primary contact (“One Voice”) between Abbott & TPM; accountable for managing MSAs. Primary Abbott interface with TPM Executive management and their management teams. Lead Business Review Meetings, manage due diligence assessments of TPM’s ability to manufacture for Abbott and represent TPM to internal Abbott resources to ensure effective interface.
  • Manage financial considerations, including a Continuous Improvement mind-set at TPMs to ensure a discipline of cost competitiveness that can continue to deliver Cost of Goods benefits. Provide TPM oversight to ensure approved projects are within budget (e.g. NPIs, Mfg. Source change & validation of new manufacturing processes for existing Products).
  • Project team member for projects to be executed at TPMs, primarily responsible for a) RFI / RFQ collection, b) engagement of TPM during the life of the project and c) CoG and MSA update and implementation as applicable
  • Collaborate with Regional TPM Managers to assess localization sourcing proposals for presentation and decision at EPO Sourcing Council, where there is impact to a Global TPM

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in science, engineering or business management. MBA degree is beneficial.

Minimum Experience/Training Required

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in the Healthcare Industry inclusive of experience within an operational, procurement or quality function
  • Relationship Management
  • Contract Management and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of regulatory, compliance and market access requirements linked to product sourcing in support of building sourcing strategies
  • Highly developed problem solving ability.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities, fluid work environments and cultural diversity.
  • Goal oriented, able to work within a team environment and self-directed
  • Good verbal, written communication skills. Ability to interface with and influence multiple areas, external and internal to Abbott is essential.
