Job Description

Manager, Database Development

Design, develop and maintain database architecture and code initiatives supporting internal and third party software solutions, delivering excellent products in scope and on time, and meeting current and long-term business needs for the business area. Participate in a team of motivated, driven, high-energy developers, building trust and confidence with team members and business stakeholders. Lead, mentor and coach junior and mid-level database developers to build stronger and faster teams.

Ongoing Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with project teams, bringing together development and database leads
  • Maintain and improve existing database objects
  • Conduct SQL Code Reviews
  • Train and mentor junior level DB developers
  • Track down and resolve bugs in any OPIS codebase
  • Perform as a non-primary database developer on a project with a team
  • Work with the primary database developer, and potentially the Development Technology Lead, to implement solutions for tasks assigned on a project
  • Provide task estimates with primary developer oversight
  • Implement code changes isolated to large systems maintained by dedicated project teams
  • Ensure current and accurate system documentation
  • Coordinate and perform testing of system modifications, verifying that testing is completed, documented, and changes implemented
  • Analyze business application requirements for functional areas, to identify concerns and develop action plans
  • Maintain the existing legacy applications

Required Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

  • Bachelors Degree in computer science or related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • 5-7+ years database developer experience
  • 3 years recent experience with SQL Server
  • Experience with SDLC
  • Ability to communicate clearly (written and oral) with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Posses a proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results
  • Understanding of modern Cloud architectures
  • Understand and remain knowledgeable of current and leading edge technologies
  • Ability to create data models for the integration of multiple systems
  • Ability to create and maintain stored procedures
  • Ability to write SQL queries and statements to explore source data and data issues
  • Organized and attentive to details

Preferred Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

  • Understanding of Data Modeling
  • Data Warehouse
  • Database administration and troubleshooting
  • BI
  • Understanding of or experience in using appropriate tools:
  • Microsoft Project, Visio, and all Office Tools
  • Agile Project Management tools such as Jira, Rally, VersionOne or equivalent
  • Experience with various industry standard project management methodologies (e.g.: Agile, SCRUM, Waterfall, etc.)
  • Applied knowledge of Scrum
  • Experience working in development teams
  • Experience with SCRUM/Agile software development
  • MS SQL Experience
  • Relational database knowledge
  • Well developed analytical and problem solving skills and intellectually curious
  • Strong motivation to expand their knowledge in the technical field
