Job Overview:

The welcome center is an emergency shelter for migrants and Asylum Seekers who have recently been released from government custody. The Welcome Center aims to provide safe respite and supportive emergency services to Asylum Seekers while they coordinate travel to their new home in the US.

The primary role of the Support Technician is to support the facility maintenance and repair needs of the Welcome Center for Asylum Seekers & Families in Phoenix. This position is responsible for daily inspection of the facility, hazard identification and mitigation, and escalation of any facility concerns beyond their ability to address directly.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that facility is maintained in safe condition for clients onsite (including young children) by identifying and addressing liquid spills, leaks, electrical issues, mechanical failures, and structural concerns.
  • Perform light electrical diagnostics and repair as needed throughout the facility.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair to plumbing systems throughout the facility.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of outside spaces, including parking lots, sidewalks, roof, and fields within property fencing.
  • Regularly perform landscaping tasks, including irrigation system maintenance and repair, as well as weed management.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and ensure mechanical equipment is in working order and fixed as needed.
  • Complete general building maintenance as needed, including repairing and painting doors and walls, replacing ceiling panels, light roof patching, and repairs to other parts of the building.
  • Maintain trash and recycling receptacles around the facility, and ensure cleanliness around the dumpster.
  • Maintain and repair air conditioning and heating systems as needed.
  • Conduct performance assessments of company appliances, such as refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, ovens, and coffee makers.
  • Identify, document, and report maintenance and repair work daily.
  • Provide weekly updates on escalated repair needs throughout the Welcome Center.
  • Communicate with Facility Supervisor to submit work orders and purchase needed supplies and tools.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 2 years working experience in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical, plumbing and/or HVAC systems required.
  • Technical certificates related to electrical, plumbing, and/or HVAC are highly preferred.
  • Basic knowledge and experience working with industrial voltage of 240V preferred.
  • Familiarity and ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment.
  • Commitment to uphold health, safety, and hygiene procedures and precautions as set in facility protocols.
  • Good communication skills; experience in a multi-cultural environment preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize, think on one’s feet, and manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to safely lift 75 lbs.
  • Bilingual skills preferred in Spanish and English, but not required.
  • In accordance with Arizona State Law, must possess or be eligible to receive a fingerprint clearance card.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional hours, such as weekends, nights and holidays as needed.

Working Environment:**

The Welcome Center is a busy 24-hour facility; flexible work hours, including holidays, evenings and weekends with regular contact with ASF clients and volunteers.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
