Position Title: Logistics Manager (Transport)
Global Support and Development (GSD) is a humanitarian organization whose mission is to respond rapidly to disasters in collaboration with at-risk communities and support them to prepare for future disasters. Mission: GSD rapidly responds to disasters in collaboration with at-risk communities and supports them to prepare for future disasters.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Logistics Manager (Transport) ensures that there is timely access to appropriate modes of transport as required by GSD personnel and material, whether during an active response, for capacity building, or during steady-state operations. In addition, they source similar support or provide advice as a subject matter expert to authorized GSD partners with their responses and activities, as determined by the Director of Logistics. They oversee curriculum development and training of GSD personnel with regards to relevant aspects of aircraft or air transport. Finally, they will be an active participant in the development of GSD’s logistics strategy, ensuring that GSD’s air transport capacity matches or exceeds the ambitions of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manages and coaches all Transport, Travel and Shipping responsible employees
- Maintains contracts and good working relationships with transport service providers and third party logistics (3PL) companies to ensure that GSD has timely and appropriate transport and shipping options for our Areas of Response (AOR)
- Sources aircraft and vehicle transport for GSD Response Teams, GSD response materials, and remote partner support
- Tracks and monitors aviation programming (routing, timing, pax and cargo) during disaster response
- Drafts and implements policies around air operations safety and use, shipping, travel, and transport
- Maintains, develops and implements transport and shipping related training programs within GSD
- Develops and maintains GSD shipping and transport tracking systems
- Assists the Director of Logistics in the development and implementation of the Shipping and Transport portions of the GSD Logistics Strategy
- Deploys and supports GSD responses, as needed
- Stays engaged on the subject of humanitarian impact
Required Experience:
- Broad management experience within a transport related business where flight chartering was part of the core business activities
- At least 5 Years successfully managing and coaching teams of 4 or more professionals
- 5 Years experience managing international and domestic shipping (of any volume)
- DOT Hazmat or IATA DGR training certification (can be from multiple sources
- Strong understanding of documentation required for air cargo or air passenger transport
- Strong understanding of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) related to aviation (specifically Parts 91, 133, 135 and special permits)
- Ability to manifest and track passengers and cargo
- Familiarity with aviation charter contracts
Working conditions and physical requirements:
- Able to lift 50lbs
- Work non standard schedules
- Work in austere environments ie Hot/humid outside exposure to Sunlight/UV and Salty Ocean environments.
