Mine Action and Disarmament’s vision is a world where people and communities are safe, resilient and protected before, during and after armed conflict. Together with national authorities and other stakeholders, we are working to resolve problems faced by local communities caused by Explosive Ordnance (EO). Currently, NPA has more than 20 Mine Action Programmes ongoing in Africa, Asia, Latin America, South East Europe and the Middle East.

Norwegian People’s Aid is looking for a new Logistics Manager for our newly established programme in Syria. In this position you will contribute to protecting civilians from explosive violence in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. The Logistics Manager is the head of the Logistics Department and is responsible for the coordination, management and day-to-day supervision of all NPA logistics activities, including procurement, warehousing, fleet management and asset management. The Logistics Manager is part of the NPA Syria Senior Management Team.

Please note that we offer a two-year contract* with the possibility of renewal. The salary and allowances are subject to income tax according to NPA’s Tax Policy. The working conditions, including annual leave, follow the Norwegian Working Environment Act.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics/procurement field or equivalent in relevant fields.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a similar position including management responsibility at INGOs, international organisation, UN or large companies.
  • Good understanding of ICT-systems and experience with MS Office applications, including advanced user level in excel.
  • Experience with managing teams and with capacity development of staff.
  • English verbal and written proficiency.
  • Working knowledge of logistics management systems and software is an advantage.
  • Certified trainings in supply chain management, public procurement and supply are advantages.
  • Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
  • Experience working in developing countries is an advantage.
  • Experience working for INGOs or international organizations is an advantage.

Personal Competencies

  • Ability to work independently and proactively with minimum supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability and willingness to work and live under stressful and hazardous conditions.

What you will do

  • Promote adherence of NPA guidelines and develop local systems for internal control.
  • Responsible for implementation and use of NPA logistic management systems in the whole programme.
  • Direct supervision and training of subordinate staff in logistic management topics and NPA regulations.
  • Provide logistical competence and assist operations and programme in planning, analysis and reporting.
  • Advise management on logistical structure and processes and coordination of logistical related functions.
  • Coordinate with Finance Manager on crosscutting themes in regards to logistic operations, such as tax, import/export, VAT refund, payment to vendors etc.
  • Responsibility for implementation of internal control and reporting systems related to non-compliance, mismanagement or corruption within area of responsibility in cooperation with top management.
