The HALO Trust is the world’s largest and oldest international humanitarian mine action non-government organisation (NGO). HALO is known for its work to clear landmines but is very much involved in the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, missiles, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 9,500 staff in 26 countries and territories.

HALO Ukraine has been operating since 2016, delivering humanitarian mine action activities, including survey, mine clearance and explosive ordnance risk education. The programme currently employs approximately 430 staff members. HALO Ukraine is responding to the humanitarian crisis in the country, scaling up its demining operations and recruiting a Procurement and Logistics Officer to join our Logistics Team based in Ukraine with frequent travel across HALO locations and Poland. The position will work under the line management of DPM and in cooperation with the national Logistics Manager

This role is a fixed term contract for a period of six months, with an immediate start date required.

Responsibilities / Tasks:

  • Liaise with HALO HQ to facilitate all international procurement requests and international freight movements for Ukraine Programme in line with HALO’s standard operating procedures
  • Under the management of DPM work with suppliers in Ukraine and overseas to source quotes, process purchase orders and oversee deliveries direct to Ukraine
  • With national Logistics Manager build and maintain a positive relationship with local suppliers to ensure goods and services are provided in timely and efficient manner
  • Liaise with freight agents to manage import and further delivery of goods from abroad to HALO’s different locations in Ukraine.
  • Work closely with UK-based employees to provide full support on any logistics/procurement needs
  • Organise import of vehicles from abroad and its further registration in Ukraine
  • Obtain all relevant paperwork required for import permission and registration of vehicles and equipment
  • Work closely with custom brokers and organise the submission of all documents related to the custom clearance of goods such are invoices, import permissions, etc.
  • Cross-border transportation support as required.
  • Any other duty as required by your line manager commensurate with the post

Requirements

Essential**:**

  • Excellent communication, verbal and written skills in English and Russian.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team. Minimum of three years of working experience on a similar position
  • Good understanding of mine action equipment, fleet and logistics.
  • Good planning skills and attention to details
  • Ability to manage workload with competing priorities and frequent interruptions
  • Competent using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to summarise and present information in a relevant way to different audiences
  • Visa Free status for Schengen Zone and willingness to travel to Poland upon request

Desirable**:**

  • Work experience in Ukraine would be considered as an advantage
  • Previous work experience in Humanitarian sector and mine action sector would be considered as strong advantage
