ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews manages several regional media support projects in Eastern Europe focused on supporting local independent journalists and media outlets. The projects aim to foster resilience in media and society by helping make credible, professional media more competitive, and expanding domestic audiences and demand for fact-based, reliable information.

The Grants and Contracts Officer will manage a considerable portion of the Vilnius office’s portfolio and will work directly with counterparts at Internews HQ to ensure a smooth flow of grant and procurement requests and documentation. They will maintain communication with grantees and contractors on administrative and management questions, and will ensure that activities are in compliance with funder requirements. They will report to the Grants and Contracts Manager.

LOGISTICS

Internews has a field office in Lithuania. Ultimately, this role will be based in Vilnius, Lithuania. The selected candidate may have the opportunity to work remotely on a partial (2-3 days per week) or full-time basis.

Wherever possible, we work to try to find solutions for international hiring that work for both the company and the candidate. This means that some of the particulars around the offer for a role will be dependent on several factors, and that the benefits and salary structure that apply to a position will ultimately be based upon the candidate’s location and where the role is hired

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Manage a considerable portion of Internews’ grant and procurement portfolio under the supervision of the Grants and Contracts Manager, in compliance with Internews policies, funder and local/regional regulations.
  • Carry out full life cycle activities of grants and contracts from the planning stages right through to close-out, in compliance with Internews policies, funder and local/regional regulations.
  • Maintain regular contact with Internews grantees and service providers with respect to implementation of projects. Advise Internews partners on all types of reporting.
  • Ensure the reports are submitted by grantees and contractors on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate with Project Coordinators, the finance department, Project Directors and Country Lead on administrative and technical monitoring of grants and vendors.
  • Keep relevant staff informed about challenges and successes of grantees and contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • University graduate with 3-4 years related work experience.
  • English and Russian language skills.
  • General familiarity with political, economic, and social issues in Eastern Europe.
  • Demonstrated analytical abilities.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Excel, Word.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Works effectively in stress related environments.
  • Ability to handle multi-faceted grant portfolio.
  • Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics in the workplace.
  • Authorized to work in Lithuania.

Preferred

Note: Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn, are encouraged to apply.

  • Familiarity with U.S. federal grant regulations or European Commission funding Rules and Principles.
