We are excited to advise that we are now hiring 2 legal apprentices to join our team here in London. A structured training programme will be provided where external study will be expected to gain an Apprentice Qualification. These will be initially 23 month contracts.

Under the supervision and direction of the designated Senior Legal Counsel, the Legal Apprentice shall provide assistance and support in the delivery of effective, efficient and commercial legal and compliance advice, primarily in respect of SCOR’s property and casualty (“P&C”) lines of business, including related claims activities, with some exposure to life and health lines of business or group business. The Legal Apprentice will be a member of the London legal team.

The Legal Apprentice will be expected to work closely with the designated Senior Legal Counsel and other members of the Legal and compliance community in London and (to the extent necessary) in other SCOR locations.
The Legal Apprentice may also provide additional support to the Legal Claims Team under the supervision of the Chief Claims Counsel (P&C).
Structured training will support the Apprenticeship programme which will include external study towards a legal apprentice qualification with an external Law School.

Legal Matters

  1. As directed by the designated Senior Legal Counsel and under his/her supervision:
  • Assist with the provision of support to the London office in relation to the drafting and negotiation of a wide spectrum of legal and commercial contracts, including confidentiality, Statement of Works and (re)insurance agreements;
  • Assist with the provision of legal guidance and support in any assigned transactional matters.
  • Assist with the drafting and updating of core global legal referral guidelines, practices and procedures;
  • Independently research, investigate, draft, prepare, file organise and distribute legal documents.
  • Assist with Group & Hub Projects;
  • Reviewing and approving (as required) the legal work product of external counsel;
  1. As directed by the designated Chief Claims Counsel (P&C) and under his/her supervision
  • Assist Chief Claims Counsel with legal research; assist claim experts in preparing responses to litigation discovery obligations; assist in review and production of documents and files for litigation.;
  • Responding to requests for technical legal support and referrals from SCOR P&C claim experts;
  • Assist with the drafting and updating of core global claims handling guidelines and practices and procedures;
  • Prepare quarterly litigation and dispute status reports; and
  • Assist with the provision of day-to-day legal support to the P&C Claims Team of SCOR globally in respect of claim related issues, disputes and queries, including sanctions and embargo searches and queries;

Legal Compliance

As directed by the designated Senior Legal Counsel and (as necessary) with the support of the Chief Claims Counsel and under their (respective) supervision (as appropriate):

  • Assist and support the P&C compliance team with the implementation of Group, Business
  • Unit & local approved governance and legal compliance policies and to assist in the provision of training on such policies as required.

Corporate

  • To the extent needed and under the supervision of the designated Senior Legal Counsel:
  • Support the London office with ad hoc corporate legal and compliance matters as required and to the extent they relate to P&C business and/or any assigned legal entities; and

Reporting

  • The Legal Apprentice will report directly to the designated Senior Legal Counsel with an indirect reporting line to the Chief Legal Counsel for P&C.
  • The Legal Apprentice also has an indirect functional reporting line directly to the Chief Claims Counsel.

Required education

  • A*-C grade in GCSEs or equivalent including strong Maths and English
  • Min C grade in at least 3 A Level subjects or equivalent qualification

  • Superior written and verbal communication
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Quick learner with a genuine interest in gaining experience within Insurance underwriting and claims
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Team player who can also demonstrate self-motivation
