Position Status: Full time

Amal Healing & Advocacy Center (AHAC) is a women-led organization that specialized in empowering women, who have experienced psychological symptoms resulting from social and sexual violence within their family or community.

AHAC seeks to contribute to creating a change in the status of women in Syrian society and to support them in becoming more aware of their rights and opportunities.

The motivation to start the organization was led by the desire to contribute to building a Syrian society based on fair and equal human rights in an independent civil state.

The organization was founded in 2014 in Antakya, Turkey, which is located near the Syrian-Turkish border, and strives to respond to the needs of Syrian refugee women, survivors of violence in particular.

Job Details:

AHAC team is looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Advisor to support an AHAC legal department under the #Aswatuna Project in to provide legal counseling and legal support to Families of Missing and Detained Survivors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient and effective program implementation while following the budget and work plan.
  • Providing legal advice to beneficiaries on various laws and regulations in order to achieve the desired benefit.
  • Participate in preparing monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/reports and proposals.
  • Conducting research and analysis of the legal problems of the beneficiaries.
  • Keep up with legislation and legal developments regarding refugees living in Türkiye.
  • Identifying possible courses of action with beneficiaries, interpreting and explaining procedures, legislation, and official documents, and assisting in filling out documents relevant to their legal problems.
  • Organizing legal activities with the organization of legal documents for the legal department
  • Contribute to the project management to the development of the legal department and its frameworks for the benefit of the beneficiaries.
  • Networking with official legal authorities and other legal organizations
  • Develop group legal counseling sessions based on community needs, and product information for publications, leaflets, etc.
  • Develop legal policy briefings and updates on the implementation of relevant.
  • Represent AHAC at meetings and other relevant technical coordination meetings.
  • Maintain legal case files and update overall project trackers
  • Provide accurate reporting to the management team as needed
  • Provide necessary reports on work progress to the Monitoring and Evaluation Department and Project Management.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • University degree in Legal.
  • Experience of 8-10 years in Syrian law and good experience in Turkish law.
  • At least 0-2 years of working experience in a similar position with a local or International NGO.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities;
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Good English written communications skills including the ability to prepare reports, Turkish is an asset.
  • An understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey and the region
  • Experience working with Syrian refugees
