Position Summary:

Provides working level supervision over the decontamination, cleaning, assembling and storage of supplies, instruments and equipment. Enters and retrieves computer data relating to surgeon preference cards, instruments, vendors, manufacturers, and supplies. Acquires special instruments, supplies, and equipment when needed through purchases and loans.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensures that instrument processing staff has appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment sterilized, assembled and ready for surgeries
  • Enters appropriate surgery preference cards into computer database
  • Maintains an adequate supply of packs and supplies to meet area needs including inventory control, proper labeling and labeling of packages
  • Assesses supply utilization and recommends changes in stock level to supervisor
  • Responsible for reporting faulty equipment and deficiencies in procedures
  • Assures sterilization of all surgical supplies and equipment throughout the Medical Center
  • Monitors all sterilization in the department for proper functioning and daily record keeping
  • Monitors surgery schedule to have special supplies and instruments available
  • Ensures that the work flows continuously in the sterile processing area
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Minimum Education:

  • Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training

Minimum Experience:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician and a minimum of 3 years sterile processing experience in an acute care setting
  • Experience in a supervisory or leadership position
  • Experience in central supply operations

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • CPR
  • CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician)
  • CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) (Highly Preferred)
