An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our team at Glangwili hospital as Lead Pharmacist for our Women’s and Children’s team. If you are looking to step into a management role that combines leading an experienced Women’s and Children’s Pharmacy team whilst retaining your own clinical expertise this could well be the perfect job for you! This growing team consists of three full time and one part time pharmacist and two pharmacy technicians who manage our paediatric, maternity and neonatal services.

Main duties of the job

As the Lead Pharmacist for Women’s and Children you will be responsible for overseeing the clinical pharmacy services to Paediatrics, SCBU, Maternity and Gynae wards. You will be responsible for delivering and developing the pharmacy and medicines management services that meet the needs of both the Health Board and patients. This includes developing and implementing policies and guidelines, implementing service improvement and forging strong working relations with consultants, clinical directors, general managers and heads of nursing.

The successful candidate will lead on a number of key projects that help integrate pharmacy services across all acute sites and will have strong reasoning and judgement skills, excellent interpersonal skills whilst possessing a passion for medication safety and service improvement. We are fully committed to the training needs of the individual and will support the right candidate with a robust training plan to support their development into this post.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

  • 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
  • Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services
