Now is a very exciting time to join the Maple Leaf family. Maple Leaf Foods is located in Hanover, ON and presently employees approximately 140 employees between our farms and hatchery. Currently, the Hanover Hatchery has the ability to hatch approximately 900,000 chicks per week. Our work includes everything from receiving the eggs from our farms to distributing chicks to many growers across the province. The eggs gathered at our farm facilities are transported to our hatchery where they will be incubated and then hatched into chicks. The chicks are then distributed to growers across the province. It is important that you understand that we are an agricultural facility and therefore you will be handling live animals.

Position Summary

The successful applicant for this position will be responsible for monitoring and coordinating the Egg set process. The successful applicant will also be responsible for the overall Hatchery and its operations during the Shift and their Weekend On-Call.

Position Responsibilities

Set Eggs into Incubators as per schedule

  • Daily monitoring and troubleshooting of incubators/hatchers & room environments
  • Responsible for hatchroom and other hatchery alarms
  • Wash and sanitize chick boxes and rollers
  • On-call rotation every other weekend
  • Chick hardening monitoring and hatcher turn-down scheduling
  • 30 hour chick hatching percentage check
  • Formaldehyde dispensing and monitoring of hatchers
  • Monthly egg weighing
  • General Maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience And Qualifications

  • Schedule is Sunday to Thursday 10pm-6am, On-call Friday @11pm to Sunday 10pm, Monday and Tuesday 5:45am to 1:45pm,
  • Live within 10 minutes of hatchery
  • Must be physically able to life 50lb repetitively and push/pull incubator racks up to 1200lb
  • Must be able to work in a warm/humid environment
  • Proven ability to follow SOP’s and schedules
  • An understanding of how a Hatchery operates an asset
  • Demonstrates commitment to safe work practices
  • Must understand and follow all HACCP/Biosecurity/Animal Welfare procedures
  • Microsoft/Excel/Word experience an asset
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Strong problem solving skills an asset
  • Supervisory experience an asset
  • Standard First Aid with CPR ‘A’
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Must be capable of standing for long periods
