Summary
New Business Development provides leadership in Save the Children’s efforts to achieve greater program results at scale through the successful pursuit of large and strategic US government development funding opportunities. You will help develop and execute the vision, strategy, and operational plan to support country and technical offices in positioning the agency to successfully compete for specific opportunities, responding to those opportunities with a quality process and product, and building and maintaining an effective BD system of tools, processes and capacities across the agency. You will provide technical assistance, support, and training to staff for new business development strategies and tasks from positioning through proposal submission – both leading and assisting proposal teams. The primary focus is on competitive fundraising opportunities from USAID and other public institutional sources.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Proposal Management (70%):
- Contribute to opportunity analysis, bid decision-making, positioning and planning, as well as post-submission capture and sharing of lessons learned.
- Serve on proposal teams in capacities that may include but are not limited to serving as a Proposal Assistant or Proposal Manager (depending on size and complexity) and ensure proposals follow established processes; writing, reviewing and editing technical and cost proposal sections; assisting with graphic development and formatting; and overseeing final proposal production for submission to donors.
- Facilitate identification of new opportunities and convene country offices and technical colleagues to explore and prepare in advance of solicitation release (setting clear objectives and measures to ensure timely progress).
Knowledge Management (20%):
- Maintain appropriate systems, procedures, policies and materials to support the identification, selection and response to strategic opportunities.
- Assist in organizing and utilizing department tools, templates, and capacity building resources in support of proposal development.
Capacity Building (10%):
- Strengthen the capacity of staff to respond to strategic opportunities through delivery of information training and tools, including: country and regional trainings, and/or one-on-one interaction with HQ and field based staff on proposal teams.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of a high school diploma, plus at least three (3) years of relevant experience
- Experience supporting the development of large-scale proposals for the USG or other public funding sources.
- Knowledge of and experience with USAID’s procurement procedures and USG grant regulations required
- Demonstrated ability to review and analyze solicitation materials against agency priorities and explore/discuss competitive landscape to inform decision making.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and initiative.
- Ability to work independently with provided direction and as part of a dynamic team.
- Proven ability to create and deliver face-to-face trainings and blended learning resources in cross-cultural contexts
- Demonstrated professional writing skills, with attention to detail and deliver work under tight deadlines and manage through competing and varied priorities
- Professional proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English, with proven copyediting and document production experience
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels, both internal and external
- Proven attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple deliverables under tight deadlines, including multiple and competing priorities simultaneously and effectively.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 15%
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging
Preferred Qualifications
- Business Development experience targeting other donors (bi-lateral and/or multi-lateral funding agencies)
- French, Spanish, Arabic, or Portuguese language skills.
